PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Sigurd Knutsson (ranked 3283 p4p, 4291 weight class) and Sean MacGuire (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Sigurd Knutsson!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Sean MacGuire!
The judges for this bout are Hirohito Nitta, Yukihiro Yamamoto and Shigeki Fujiwara.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Knutsson tries to close the distance and clinch up but MacGuire swats him away and circles back towards the center.
MacGuire lands a nice shot to the body.
MacGuire wings a very wild body shot but it does the job and lands to the midsection.
Sloppy strikes from MacGuire. Those never looked like landing.

Knutsson dives in and scores a takedown into MacGuire's guard.
MacGuire can't keep his opponent in guard - Knutsson advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.
Knutsson seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.

Knutsson decides to stand and escape the position.
MacGuire moves into range and connects with a jab.

That's one minute gone in the round.
MacGuire lunges at Knutsson with a hook that half lands and is half blocked by Knutsson's hand.
Knutsson walks into a straight right hand from MacGuire.
Knutsson shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts MacGuire as he jumps to the side.
The fighters circle momentarily. MacGuire darts into range and connects with a nice straight punch.

It looks like Sigurd Knutsson has been cut.
MacGuire dips to his left and cracks Knutsson with an uppercut!
MacGuire scores with a reasonable looking shot to the body. Knutsson doesn't seem bothered though.

Knutsson gets the takedown into side control.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Knutsson content to control the pace. The referee will try and keep them active though.

MacGuire managing to avoid any damage from the strikes thrown by Knutsson.
MacGuire is not content to let Knutsson control the position.
Knutsson throwing strikes but missing, from side control.

Knutsson stands up and beckons MacGuire to his feet.

Knutsson is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
No luck for Knutsson with that takedown attempt.
MacGuire lands a nice shot to the body.
MacGuire avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
A little jabbing left from MacGuire on the counter but it doesn't find it's target.
Sean MacGuire is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Good exchange - MacGuire coming out on top.
MacGuire avoids the head kick by Knutsson.
MacGuire scores with a nice strike.
Knutsson tries to score a power double leg takedown but MacGuire sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Knutsson somewhat.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Sigurd Knutsson. That's going to take a lot out of him.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Boom, another hit is landed. "You're gunna get knocked out" taunts MacGuire, as that shot connected.

MacGuire drops Knutsson with a hook right on the temple. He thinks about going to the ground but Knutsson looks back up at him and smiles so MacGuire waves him back to his feet - he obviously thinks he can knock him out after that shot landed.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Knutsson fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
MacGuire is looking for an opening here. He's unloaded a big left hand that catches Knutsson flush on the jaw and sends him tumbling to the canvas! Knutsson is out cold! MacGuire holds back from landing any unnecessary shots to his unconscious opponent, as the referee reacts slowly to the situation. A brutal knockout and then some excellent sportsmanship - this guy is my new favorite fighter!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:31 of round 1, we have a winner by way of KO (Punch). Sean MacGuire!
Sean MacGuire decided to go for the less than humble approach in his post fight interview, telling everyone how he is going to conquer the world. The crowd seemed to like it when really that sort of approach could have gone either way.
