PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Tim Djoumbi (ranked 4336 p4p, 4335 weight class) and Smelius Quintus (ranked 470 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Tim Djoumbi!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Smelius Quintus!
The judges for this bout are Andrew Berry, Donald Grub and Steven Brown.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Djoumbi misses with a takedown

and Quintus counters with a nice double leg into side control. Djoumbi won't be happy with that.

Quintus stands up and beckons Djoumbi to his feet.

Quintus closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Djoumbi's guard.

Djoumbi pushes Quintus off and scrambles back to his feet.
Tim Djoumbi seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Djoumbi misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
A countering left hand to the body from Quintus misses.

Quintus drives through with a takedown into Djoumbi's guard. Let's see what he can do from the top position.
Quintus controls from within his opponent's guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Djoumbi wants to stand but Quintus is controlling the position.
Djoumbi looking for a sweep. Not yet Djoumbi, not yet.
Djoumbi is striking off his back. Quintus thinks nothing of it though and passes easily into half guard.
Quintus perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.
Quintus wants to free his trapped foot but Djoumbi is holding on for dear life with his legs.
Quintus prevents Djoumbi from improving his position.
Quintus slows the pace down in half guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Quintus tries to pass to full mount but Djoumbi defends it.
Quintus content to sit in half guard and control for a moment.
It looks like Quintus might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it.
Djoumbi wants to get back to full guard.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Quintus wants to pass the guard but Djoumbi is defending well.
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.

Quintus is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.
Quintus wants to lay and pray for a moment but Djoumbi keeps working.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.

Quintus has closed the distance and engaged Djoumbi in a clinch.

Djoumbi pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.

Djoumbi shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.

Djoumbi got a little sloppy there for a moment and Quintus has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Djoumbi has managed to get both his arms back between Quintus's legs - danger averted.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Djoumbi trying to control but Quintus is working from the bottom.
Djoumbi in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.

There's a bit of a scramble here and now Quintus is on top in guard.

The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Djoumbi controls Quintus momentarily but Quintus frees himself.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Smelius Quintus dominated that round.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.

Djoumbi fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Djoumbi shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Quintus as he jumps to the side.

That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Tim Djoumbi. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Djoumbi shoots in for a double leg but Quintus sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Djoumbi.
Quintus changes levels for a counter takedown but doesn't follow through with his attempt.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Quintus clinches.
Both guys are working to get underhooks.
Quintus digs a right hand underneath Djoumbi's ribcage. Djoumbi let out a lung full of air as it connected.
Quintus just leaning against Djoumbi, taking a breather.

Djoumbi breaks the clinch.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Djoumbi has a takedown stuffed.

Quintus shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Djoumbi manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.
Djoumbi has momentary wrist control but Quintus slips an elbow through the middle.
Quintus slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.

Quintus controls the pace of the fight for a moment.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Tim Djoumbi is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Djoumbi tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Quintus defends well and Djoumbi ends up having to push Quintus into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Quintus is working for a takedown up against the cage. He can't get it on this occasion though.
Quintus will no doubt start fighting again in a minute but for now he's just having a little rest, leaning Djoumbi up against the cage.

Quintus breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Djoumbi fails with a takedown attempt.

Quintus shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Djoumbi napping and manages to drive through into side control!
Djoumbi bucks up and tries to throw Quintus off but instead Quintus has got his back!
Djoumbi might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

Djoumbi covers up after taking a massive shot to the side of the head.
Djoumbi is trying to remain composed but Quintus is hammering down strikes to the side of his head.

Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
A bit of a pause in the action here. Quintus controlling the positon.
Quintus is not going to allow Djoumbi to sit and survive in this position.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Smelius Quintus showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! This is the final round!

and Quintus moves into the clinch.

Quintus gets through Djoumbi's defenses to land a nice punch to the side of the head.

Djoumbi has dropped down and is working for a takedown. Quintus is trying to keep an underhook but Djoumbi manages to get the takedown into half guard.

Quintus makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Quintus.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Quintus has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Djoumbi can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Quintus keeping moving, preventing Djoumbi from controlling successfully.
Djoumbi is looking to work some ground and pound but Quintus has wrist control.

Djoumbi is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Quintus is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Quintus has escaped and now he's on top!


Djoumbi has his foot on Quintus's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Quintus works his way back into a safe position though.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Quintus slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.

Djoumbi wants to get back to his feet but Quintus is in a dominant position and won't allow it.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Quintus is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.
Djoumbi throws a couple of weedy looking strikes off his back.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up.

Quintus clinches.
Quintus taking a breather.

Quintus is working on a single leg takedown against the cage. Djoumbi can't fight it off and eventually Quintus manages to take the fight to the floor. Djoumbi looks annoyed but at least he's managed to land in guard.
Quintus wants to control from the top but Djoumbi keeps moving.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Djoumbi can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Quintus controls the pace.
Quintus looking to pass the guard.
Quintus is working Djoumbi over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.
Djoumbi striking off his back but it's not causing Quintus any problems.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Djoumbi wants to stand but Quintus is controlling the position.
Quintus works a leg free and moves into half guard.

And that's the end of the fight!
Smelius Quintus comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Quintus has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
