PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Namond Moore (ranked 2167 p4p, 2254 weight class) and Alexandros Stamatis (ranked 263 p4p, 0 weight class). Moore comes into the arena with Mama Loi, Papa Loi blaring out of the sound system. Stamatis has chosen Sabaton - Sparta as his entrance music. Alexandros Stamatis told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 6 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Namond Moore!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 44 - 25 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Alexandros Stamatis!
The judges for this bout are Cecil Peabody, Alan Glass and Wesley Smith.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Stamatis connects with a body shot.

Moore shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Stamatis manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.
Stamatis is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control.
Stamatis manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Moore manages to get himself to full guard.


Moore is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
Moore knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Stamatis on the ground.
Stamatis working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.
Stamatis throws a big elbow that misses.
Stamatis has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Moore is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Stamatis defends well.

Stamatis is looking to work some ground and pound but Moore has wrist control.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Stamatis postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head.
Stamatis missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.

Moore escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Stamatis gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Stamatis is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.
Stamatis throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Moore works some decent striking defense from the bottom.

Stamatis thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.

Stamatis drops back looking for a leg! Moore is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Moore manages to kick Stamatis off! Stamatis jumps back into Moore's guard.
Moore on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Moore tries to get out of the position.
Stamatis with a flurry of punches that miss.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Moore working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Stamatis.
Stamatis not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.
Moore wants to sweep here but Stamatis controlling him for the moment.
The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.
Stamatis lands a couple of elbows.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Stamatis accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Stamatis seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.
Stamatis postures up in Moore's guard and throws a big left but Moore blocks it.
Stamatis chips away with some ground and pound.

Stamatis got a little sloppy there for a moment and Moore has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Stamatis has managed to get both his arms back between Moore's legs - danger averted.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Stamatis postures up in Moore's guard and throws a big left but Moore blocks it.

Moore has his foot on Stamatis's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Stamatis works his way back into a safe position though.
Stamatis engaging in some classic timewasting tactics.
Stamatis loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.
Moore preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.
Stamatis throws a big right hand that misses.
Stamatis passes Moore's right leg, so he's now in half guard.
Stamatis not throwing his punches with enough precision this time.
Stamatis missing with the ground and pound from half guard.
Stamatis takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.
Stamatis drops an elbow to the side of Moore's head.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Stamatis missing with the ground and pound from half guard.
Stamatis throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.
Stamatis with a momentary lay and pray from half guard.
Moore won't allow Stamatis to pass to mount.
Stamatis takes advantage of the dominant position to land a couple of big hammer fists.
Stamatis is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen.
Stamatis throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.

Moore looking to force a kimura from the bottom here. He's concentrating on that move too much though and Stamatis pushes past his half guard into mount!
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Stamatis thowing shots but they're missing.
Stamatis has his opponent pinned against the cage, landing some nasty ground and pound that is really making a bit of a mess out of Moore's face.
Moore wants to hold on but Stamatis pushes him away.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Alexandros Stamatis dominated that round.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!

Stamatis thuds his right hand into Moore's forehead from close range. That could be painful for both fighters.
Horrible takedown attempt by Moore or perhaps it was just good defense by Stamatis, which made it look bad.
Moore looks to have improved his striking defense since last time we saw him fight.
Stamatis connects with a good right hand that stumbles Moore. Moore circles away out of range and recomposes himself.
Stamatis jabs at Moore's body.

Stamatis lands a big right hand that sends Moore crashing to the mat! Stamatis stays standing though and waves Moore back to his feet!

Moore is rocked!
Namond Moore seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Stamatis throws an uppercut from hell that sends Moore clean off his feet! He's out cold! Stamatis stands back and admires his work as he thinks about that KO of the night award that is surely being wrapped up for him back stage.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:30 of round 2, we have a winner by way of KO (Punch). Alexandros Stamatis!
Alexandros Stamatis decided to hype himself up post fight. It was going well but he went on about it a bit too long and the crowd turned on him a little.
