PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Hope Restless (ranked 4432 p4p, 4821 weight class) and Angel Reyes (ranked 209 p4p, 215 weight class). Rumors backstage are that the fighters have been paid to keep it standing but we know that would never happen in MMA!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 3 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Hope Restless!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Angel Reyes!
The judges for this bout are Illya Tyunina, Aleksandr Martynov and Sergei Dronov.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Restless tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
Restless lands with a nice low kick. That'll leave a bruise.
Reyes is trying hard to land a takedown here. Restless sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.
Hope Restless seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Reyes can do anything to dispel that myth.

Restless sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Reyes's guard.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Reyes keeping hold of Restless's head, controlling as best he can.

That was a close round but I would say that Hope Restless will probably get the nod.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.

Horrible takedown attempt by Reyes or perhaps it was just good defense by Restless, which made it look bad.

and Restless counters with a three punch combo that has Reyes backing up. Reyes nods at Restless to acknowledge the strikes.
Hope Restless has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Angel Reyes.

Restless tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Reyes was well out of range. Poor timing from Restless.
Restless misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Restless leaves Reyes with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Reyes blocks a head kick by Restless.

Restless rushes Reyes and presses him up against the cage.

Reyes has Restless pressed up against the cage. He's trying to work for a single leg takedown. Reyes pulls back from the cage and twists to the side, sending Restless tumbling to the mat - Reyes dives into Restless's guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Reyes looking to improve position, pressing down on Restless's thigh with his hand. Restless seems to be working to lock up a guilotine though... is Reyes paying attention? Apparently not! He's locked it up tight! Reyes's face has turned purple! Will he tap? Will he! YES! He's tapped! Restless picked his opening and made it count! Great finish!
