Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 16 - 0 - 1, fighting out of Las Vegas, Gregor Marek!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 13 - 9 - 1, fighting out of Las Vegas, Aleks Nik!
The judges for this bout are Paulsen Ambrosius, Nard Betker and Radbod Blank.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Nik keeps the fight on the outside.
Marek waving his hands out in front of him, looking to distract Nik.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.

Nik throws out a loose jab but Marek uses good head movement to avoid it.
Marek missing with a left hand there. Nik was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one.
Marek walks straight into a jab right on the nose. That one stung - he's blinking and trying to clear his head.

Marek looks to have improved his striking defense since last time we saw him fight.

The fight stays on the outside here - Marek looks like he's thinking about clinching though.

Nik turns his back and goes for a hip toss. It's a bit messy but it gets the job done and Nik manages to end up in side control.

Nik has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Marek can't do much from the bottom here.

Marek is working to avoid the ground and pound but Nik connects with a decent elbow.
Nik cracks Marek with a big right hand but Marek just smiles back at him and invites him to have another go.
Nik lands a few punches from side control.
Nik is pausing for a moment. What's he doing? It looks like he's clearing his nose. Oh dude! He's shot a load of snot all down Marek's shoulder. That is not cool.

Nik is looking to take a break and control but Marek is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Nik misses with an attempted head punch from side control.

Nik scores with a couple of short elbows.
Aleks Nik has got the better of the ground game so far.
Marek can't do much from the bottom here.
Nik throws a strike aimed at the side of Marek's head but Marek avoids it well.
Nik in side control, trying to ground and pound but not landing this time.
Nik content to control the pace. The referee will try and keep them active though.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Nik wants to lay and pray for a moment but Marek keeps working.

Nik uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Marek.
Nik looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Marek is fending him off so far but Nik persists. Nope, Marek circles away and we're back to standing.
Gregor Marek has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Aleks Nik.
Nik comes forward and lands a shot to the body, then darts back out of range.

Nik throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.

Nik lands a really nice looking cross but Marek seems unphased.
Marek tries to close the distance and clinch up but Nik swats him away and circles back towards the center.
It seemed like Nik was going to counter with the hook but didn't fully commit to it.

Marek takes one on the chin but seems OK.
Nik lands a pitter patter jab to the forehead of his opponent.
Marek lands with a cross.

Marek loads up on a big right hand but Nik slips the punch.

Marek throws a sloppy head kick and Nik moves out of range easily.
Nik cracks Marek with a good shot that sees him stumbling back into the cage.
Nik lands a straight punch to the body, keeping Marek at a distance.

Marek throws the left hand but Nik avoids the punch easily.
Marek swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
It's got to the stage where if one of these guys blows hard enough, the other might fall over.
Nik will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
Nik lands a nice shot that snaps Marek's head back.
Marek throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.

Nik seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Marek does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

Nik wants to free his trapped foot but Marek is holding on for dear life with his legs.

Nik is taking a breather. Marek says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.

We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.
Nik has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
The referee calls for the fighters to work.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up.
Marek scores with the left hand. Nik knows he should have avoided that one.

Nik uses good footwork to get in and out and land a nice right hand before Marek has time to react.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! This is the final round!

Marek is looking to clinch but Nik is avoiding it.
Nik has a takedown stuffed.
Nik looks to land a left hand but Marek moved out of range nicely.
Nik circles away from the clinch attempt.
Nik throws a hook to the side of Marek's head but Marek sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.

Nik stooping low to avoid any incoming strikes and then lunges in with an uppercut come cross that lands flush.

Nik feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

Aleks Nik is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Marek parries the strikes from Nik easily there. Nik is wary of posturing up too much because it might enable Marek to escape.
Both of our modern day gladiators look out of it here - a gruelling 5 rounds of action taking it's toll on them, no doubt.
