PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Otto McBean (ranked 394 p4p, 1454 weight class) and Lester Green (ranked 30 p4p, 107 weight class). Green has chosen This Is Beetle as his entrance music. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 14 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Otto McBean!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 11 - 6 - 1, fighting out of London, Lester Green!
The judges for this bout are Skip Squint, Francis DeMontford and Winston Howard.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

McBean gets a takedown into half guard.
Green wants to improve his position but McBean is controlling well.

McBean is looking for a kimura here.

McBean is looking for a kimura but Green is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for McBean to get the leverage.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Green is positioning himself well to prevent McBean advancing to mount.

McBean stalling away here and it's allowed Green to slip out his trapped foot and regain full guard.
McBean is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.
Green wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now.

McBean drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Green manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now McBean has Green in his guard.


McBean has his foot on Green's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Green works his way back into a safe position though.
McBean has been talking about how he's improved his wrestling in the run up to the fight so let's see if that's enough to sway the balance.

Green seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.

McBean is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Green is aware though and is defending well.

McBean has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Green can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Green got a little sloppy there for a moment and McBean has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Green has managed to get both his arms back between McBean's legs - danger averted.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Green misses with an uppercut. McBean saw that one coming.

Green throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
McBean fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Lester Green will probably get the nod.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!

McBean ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face.
Nice takedown defense from Green. No joy for McBean on that attempt.
Green is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by McBean.
Green throws a head kick that misses.
Green keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
And an attempted straight right on the counter from Green! But no joy.
McBean will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.

Green tries to slip a leg under to move to half guard but McBean presses down on the leg and jumps into full mount!

McBean swings around for an armbar but it's a sloppy attempt and Green is now in McBean's guard. A big mistake from McBean there, giving up the dominant position!

McBean working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Green doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Green manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

A close second round but Lester Green will probably get the nod - 10:9.
That's time! McBean's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. This is the final round!

McBean fails with the takedown.
McBean tries to score a power double leg takedown but Green sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten McBean somewhat.
Green displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from McBean.
Green raises up his leg as if looking to counter with a high kick.

Otto McBean has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

Green looked like he wanted to counter with a punch but didn't throw it.
Green throws an uppercut from half a mile away. McBean sees it coming and avoids it easily.
McBean wants to take advantage of his opponent's missed offense by moving into the clinch.
Green swings and misses with a hook to the body.
McBean fails to land the takedown.
Green connects with a slap. Keep your fist closed son.
McBean throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Green's waist but Green gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing McBean off to one side.
Green let fly with a counter punch to the body but it didn't land.
Green jabbing away but nothing is landing.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from McBean.
Green thows a body kick. McBean tries to catch it but that hurt him.

McBean shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Green pinned against the cage. Green gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
McBean tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Green defends well and McBean ends up having to push Green into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch.
Lester Green is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.
McBean is trying to pull guard but Green turns him against the cage and we stay in the clinch.
The two fighters are working to gain dominance in the clinch.
McBean fails to pull the fight into his guard.

McBean tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Green smiles and moves away.

Green throws a hook but McBean avoids it easily.
McBean shoots in but doesn't get the takedown
and Green counters with a straight right hand.
McBean closes the distance and clinches up with Green, looking for a takedown. McBean pushes Green against the cage but Green circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Nice shot lands for Green.

and Green counters nicely by changing levels and landing a hook to the body.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
McBean misses with a right hand
and Green counters with a stiff right hand.

McBean gets tackled into the cage by Green. Green maintains the clinch.

And that's the end of the fight!
Lester Green comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Green has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
