Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Joseph Benavidez!
The judges for this bout are Valeri Chadov, Dmitry Maklakov and Aleksei Zolotukhin.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Akkersdijk tests Benavidez's chin there with a solid looking shot.

A jab-cross combination lands for Akkersdijk and sends Benavidez crashing to the mat! Akkersdijk follows him down to the mat - Benavidez regains half guard but he's not out of trouble yet!

Benavidez is rocked!
Akkersdijk will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
Benavidez is refusing to be controlled, as Akkersdijk sits in half guard.
Benavidez is still in real trouble! Can Akkersdijk finish him?

Akkersdijk is working for a kimura but Benavidez is defending it quite comfortably.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Akkersdijk is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.
Benavidez seems to have recovered his senses.
Benavidez has a hand on Akkersdijk's thigh, trying to get back to full guard. Akkersdijk takes advantage of the position though and mounts him!
Benavidez's corner are shouting for him to stand up but that's bad cornering - how is he meant to stand up when he's mounted? He should be looking to improve his position on the ground before trying to stand back up.
Benavidez really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Akkersdijk. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Akkersdijk looking to control but Benavidez is working nicely, looking to advance position himself.
Akkersdijk is really struggling to control Benavidez but he's trying to hold on to the position.

Akkersdijk wants to finish this one by submission but Benavidez is holding onto his waist, trying to prevent any attacks from Akkersdijk.
Benavidez is wriggling around trying to escape.
Akkersdijk forces the positional change into back control.

Akkersdijk has the hooks in and he's looking for a rear naked choke here. Benavidez is defending well but eventually Akkersdijk manages to get an arm under the chin and he's locked on the RNC! Benavidez has no choice but to tap now! He does! This one is all over!

After winning the bout, Sijbrand Akkersdijk thanked all his fans and promised he'd do even better in his next fight. The crowd seemed to love his humility.
