PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Tapad Amiga (ranked 24482 p4p, 24294 weight class) and Rico Salvacion (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 15 - 35 - 3, fighting out of Las Vegas, Tapad Amiga!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 20 - 31 - 5, fighting out of Las Vegas, Rico Salvacion!
The judges for this bout are Daniel Franklin, Frank Dennis and Stewart Dunkirk.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
We've got one fighter who appears to only be looking to counter and the other not looking particularly aggressive either, so we could be in for a dull fight.
Amiga shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Salvacion defends it nicely.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Amiga enables Salvacion to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Amiga manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.

That's one minute gone in the round.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Amiga pulls Salvacion in to control the position.
Salvacion slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.
Amiga trying to strike off his back.
Amiga wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now.
Amiga trying to keep a closed guard but Salvacion is proving a slippery customer.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Salvacion stays in close to Amiga's body and controls the position.
We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Amiga is controlling Salvacion's posture.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up.

Salvacion dives in and scores a takedown into Amiga's guard.
Salvacion's corner is telling him to maintain position.

Amiga is doing well to control the posture of his opponent and prevent any damage.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Rico Salvacion dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare each other down, ready to get back to the action.

Amiga shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Salvacion sprawls well. Salvacion wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Amiga gets slowly back to his feet.

Amiga fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Salvacion manages to avoid it.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Salvacion fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Amiga to the ground. Salvacion is now in Amiga's guard.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Amiga is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control.
It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.
Salvacion seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.

Amiga misses with a takedown
and Salvacion counters with a good, hard body kick but Amiga shrugs it off.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Amiga throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Salvacion's waist but Salvacion gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Amiga off to one side.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Tapad Amiga. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Salvacion blocks the body kick.
Salvacion throws a fast counter high kick but Amiga manages to duck under it in time.

Salvacion manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Amiga on his heels. He'll look to pass Amiga's guard now, I'm sure.

Amiga pulls Salvacion in close to prevent any damage.
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Rico Salvacion showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! This is the final round!

Amiga shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Amiga fails with a takedown attempt.
Salvacion is trying to counter with his kicks.
Amiga changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Salvacion tries to avoid it but Amiga manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Salvacion to the ground. Salvacion escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Tapad Amiga. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Salvacion is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
Salvacion dives in and grabs Amiga's left leg, looking for a takedown. Amiga pushes down on Salvacion's head and hops out.
Amiga throws a quick counter kick to the body but Salvacion avoids it.

Amiga manages to wriggle out and sneak his way back up to his feet, so the fighters are now clinched up against the cage.

Amiga has dropped down and is looking to force the takedown but it's defended by Salvacion after a bit of a struggle.
Salvacion is pressed up against the cage. Amiga has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Salvacion down to the mat. Salvacion avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.
Tapad Amiga has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Rico Salvacion is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Rico Salvacion comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Salvacion has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
