PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Peguero Jean Philippe (ranked 373 p4p, 453 weight class) and Kazuma Kiryu (ranked 60 p4p, 72 weight class). Philippe comes into the arena with Chant vaudou haitien blaring out of the sound system. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 30 - 23 - 0, fighting out of London, Peguero Jean Philippe!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 14 - 9 - 1, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Kazuma Kiryu!
The judges for this bout are Darius Henderson, Hugh Johnson and Skip Squint.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Decent striking displayed by Kiryu there.
Kiryu steps to the side to avoid the strikes from Philippe.
Kiryu tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Philippe manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
A big right from Philippe misses.
Philippe throws a hook to the side of Kiryu's head but Kiryu sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.
Philippe throws an off balance right hand
and Kiryu counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.

It looks like Peguero Jean Philippe has been cut.
Philippe connects with a jab.
Kiryu slips under a jab.
Kiryu replies with a solid counter kick to the body but Philippe blocks it well.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Philippe takes a step back and watches a body kick go sailing past his mid section.
Kiryu takes a hook to the side of the head. I wonder if that's got his ears ringing.
Philippe walks straight into an uppercut. Luckily it didn't land flush.
Philippe loads up on a big right hand but Kiryu slips the punch.

Kiryu moving in and out of range nicely, whilst landing the scoring shot.
Philippe walks into a stiff left hand from Kiryu.
Philippe uses good head movement to avoid the hook from Kiryu.
Kiryu connects with a hook to the side of his opponent's head.

Philippe is rocked!

Peguero Jean Philippe's cut is getting worse.
Philippe slips a straight right by Kiryu.
Peguero Jean Philippe seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Kiryu lands a big head kick that sends Philippe tumbling to the mat! Kiryu takes a step backwards and waves Philippe back to his feet - he wants the finish!
Oh Philippe is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

and Kiryu counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Kiryu.

Philippe seems to have got his legs back now.
Kiryu trying to stall but Philippe improves his position.

Philippe breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Kiryu has been working his punching technique in the buildup to the fight and it appears to be paying off.

Philippe throws out a token jab with nothing on it.
Kiryu turns his hip over beautifully as he lands a nice leg kick.

Kiryu gets in close and instigates a clinch.
Philippe tries to throw a body punch but Kiryu avoids it by throwing Philippe back against the cage.

Philippe manages to break the clinch.
Kiryu swings and misses with a hook to the body.
A quick step to the side and Philippe tries to counter with a shot to the body but it doesn't connect.
Philippe takes an uppercut right on the jaw but it doesn't phase him.
Kiryu misses with a looping right.
Philippe misses with a hook to the body
and Kiryu counters with a nice uppercut.

Peguero Jean Philippe's cut is bleeding quite badly. He's got to try and protect it.
Kiryu pushing out the jab but it's not landing.
Kiryu takes a jab right on the kisser.

It looks like Kazuma Kiryu has been cut.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Philippe scores with a punch to the gut of his opponent.
Philippe lands with a straight right. Kiryu didn't see that one coming.
Kiryu keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
Kiryu wants to counter the offense by Philippe and move into the clinch position.
Jab, jab by Philippe - just one landing.
Philippe blocks a jab.
Kiryu tries to land a front kick but Philippe steps back. That was a bit too telegraphed.
Philippe moves out of range as Kiryu throws a body kick.
Philippe comes forward and lands a shot to the body, then darts back out of range.
Kiryu misses with a left hand
enabling Philippe to counter with a crisp jab.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Kiryu connects with a nice looking jab.
Philippe lands with a shot to the body.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Philippe throws a poor cross that misses
and he gets countered with a snapping leg kick.
Philippe misses with a left hand
and Kiryu connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.
Kiryu throws a body punch but Philippe moves out of range.
Philippe uses good head movement to avoid the hook from Kiryu.
Philippe throwing a counter right hand but Kiryu manages to avoid it.
A nice inside leg kick there by Philippe. That's going to slow Kiryu down.
Philippe throws a right hand that misses
letting Kiryu counter with a right hand.
Kiryu with a nice looking leg kick. You could hear that one land in a back row.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Kazuma Kiryu dominated that round.
Both fighters have cut men working on them during the interval.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.

Kiryu tries to land a front kick but Philippe steps back. That was a bit too telegraphed.
Kiryu throws a jab when Philippe was well out of range.
Philippe misses with a hook
and Kiryu counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.
Kiryu scoring well with a low kick there.
Nice shot lands for Kiryu.

Kiryu lands a big right hand that sends Philippe crashing to the mat! Kiryu stays standing though and waves Philippe back to his feet!

Jeez, Peguero Jean Philippe's cut is really nasty now. The referee must be thinking about getting that checked.
This has been an exciting period of action!

Philippe fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Kiryu manages to avoid it.
Kiryu scores with a slapping inside leg kick.
Kiryu throws a hard body shot but it just misses.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Philippe wants to clinch up but Kiryu keeps it at a distance.
Kiryu takes a shot to the nose. Hopefully that hasn't broken it.
Kiryu has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Philippe scores with a hook to the body. Kiryu takes a step back and tries to catch his breath.
Kiryu throws a body kick despite being completely out of range
and Kiryu takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.
Kiryu throws a leg kick
and Philippe counters with a straight right hand.
Philippe looks to throw the jab but Kiryu is out of range.
A nice side step and Kiryu releases a counter shot to the body, but it doesn't find it's home.
The crowd cheers as Philippe lands an impressive looking overhand right. Kiryu doesn't seem phased though.

That has opened up Kazuma Kiryu's cut even more.
Kiryu uses good footwork to get in and out and land a nice right hand before Philippe has time to react.

The referee calls the doctor in to look at Peguero Jean Philippe's cut. Oh no, the doctor has called an end to the bout!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:57 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Cut). Kazuma Kiryu!
Kazuma Kiryu decided to thank the fans in attendance for making a great atmosphere. It seemed to go down pretty well.
