PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Lester Green (ranked 1489 p4p, 3353 weight class) and Lochlain OBrien (ranked 97 p4p, 202 weight class). Green comes to the cage accompanied by This Is Beetle. OBrien has chosen Come out and fight! as his entrance music. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 10 - 6 - 1, fighting out of London, Lester Green!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Lochlain OBrien!
The judges for this bout are Ron Honeybunn, Winston Howard and Hugh Johnson.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

OBrien clinches up with Green and pushes him back against the cage.
Green has OBrien pressed against the cage.
OBrien is trying to pull guard but being pressed up against the cage enables Green to keep the fight standing.
OBrien drops down for a takedown but doesn't get it.
OBrien looks more muscular than last time we saw him. He must have been on the weights.
OBrien jumps guard but Green stands there with OBrien around his waist. OBrien gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.
Lester Green has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Lochlain OBrien.
OBrien tries to pull guard but Green forces him back to his feet, against the cage.
OBrien tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Green just stands there and leans against the cage.
OBrien fails to pull the fight into his guard.
A head punch on the inside from Green fails to land.
OBrien is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.

Green slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.

Hammerfist, elbow! yells OBrien's corner. There ya go! There ya go!

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Green wants to sweep but no luck.
OBrien loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.
OBrien throws a big right hand that misses.

OBrien is fighting to break Green's control of his arms but Green is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment.
The referee is pacing around the two fighters, thinking about a standup.
OBrien wants to control from the top but Green keeps moving.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
We've been told by Green's head coaches at The Nonce Hunters that he's been working on his takedown defense in preparation for this fight.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
OBrien fakes low and throws an overhand right that catches Green on the side of the head.
OBrien throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Green misses with a hook. OBrien ducked under it nicely.
OBrien tries to counter by closing the distance.
OBrien fails in his attempt to clinch.
OBrien wants to clinch up but Green keeps it at a distance.
Lester Green is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
OBrien walks into a left hand.
OBrien shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
OBrien shoots for a double leg takedown but Green sprawls well. He's pushed OBrien's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!

OBrien shoots in looking for a takedown. Green tries to sprawl out of it but OBrien keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Green manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
OBrien closes the distance and clinches up with Green, looking for a takedown. OBrien pushes Green against the cage but Green circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
OBrien moves away from the strike by Green.
Green misses with a right hand

and OBrien counters with a nice double leg into guard.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as OBrien accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

OBrien displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Green throws out the jab.

OBrien has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Green is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.

OBrien jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Green walks away with a smile on his face. OBrien gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.
Green is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that OBrien can do to turn this around?

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as OBrien accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
OBrien tries to close the distance and clinch but Green swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
OBrien closes the distance looking to clinch
enabling Green to counter with a crisp jab.
Green throws an uppercut from half a mile away. OBrien sees it coming and avoids it easily.
Green throws a nice hook to the body that draws an oooh from the crowd.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Green fakes high and swings low for a body shot but OBrien manages to avoid it.
OBrien throws out a token jab with nothing on it.
A counter left hand to the body from Green misses its target.

And that's the end of the fight!
Lester Green showed his dominance in that final round.
I think Green has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
