PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Oscar Gage (ranked 631 p4p, 466 weight class) and Lawson Chandler (ranked 95 p4p, 70 weight class). Rumors backstage are that the fighters have been paid to keep it standing but we know that would never happen in MMA!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 15 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Oscar Gage!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 8 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Lawson Chandler!
The judges for this bout are Steve Montenegro, Franklyn Lucas and David Schapiro.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Chandler will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
Chandler with poor footwork there. He got himself in a bit of a tangle, enabling Gage to score with a decent uppercut.
Chandler rushes in with a sloppy looking punch
and Gage counters with a stiff right hand.

Gage definitely looks more muscular than last time we saw him fight.

Gage fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Chandler to the ground. Gage is now in Chandler's guard.

Gage thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Chandler wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Chandler fakes a couple of low kicks, before throwing one on the third attempt. It connects and Gage has to reset his feet before getting ready to engage.

As Chandler tries to get set, Gage tries to push him back and clinch up but Chandler manages to avoid the attempt.
Chandler swings away with a leg kick that misses.
Gage stumbles momentarily as he takes a strong leg kick from Chandler.

Gage fails with an attempt to clinch.
Chandler avoids a lazy jab quite easily.
Gage rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Chandler moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
Chandler flicks out a counter leg kick but Gage steps away.
Gage fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
We can't be sure of the tactics at this early stage but we have heard that Chandler has been working on his takedowns a lot in the buildup to the fight and we can only assume he's going to look to take this to the mat.
Chandler dances in quickly and lands a nice inside leg kick on Gage. That did some damage!

Gage drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Gage jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

Gage drops back looking for a leg! Chandler is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Chandler manages to kick Gage off! Gage jumps back into Chandler's guard.

Chandler bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Gage's guard.

Gage is looking for a triangle here but Chandler uses the submission attempt to pass into side control.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.

The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Gage manages to land a sweep and he's now on top! Lovely Jiu Jitsu!

Chandler misses with a head kick.
Gage is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Chandler can do to turn this around?

It looks like Oscar Gage has been cut.
Gage lands a nice shot that snaps Chandler's head back.
Oscar Gage is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Gage throws a looping overhand right but Chandler ducks down to avoid it.
Chandler tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Gage tries to close the distance and clinch but Chandler swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Chandler dips to his left and cracks Gage with an uppercut!
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Chandler throws a sloppy head kick and Gage moves out of range easily.
Gage shoots in for a double leg but Chandler sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.

Chandler thumps Gage with a low kick.
A bone on bone clash there as Gage blocks the leg kick.
Gage tries to counter by clinching up but Chandler breaks away and moves out of range.
Chandler keeps his opponent at a distance with a nice jab.
The crowd cheers as Chandler lands an impressive looking overhand right. Gage doesn't seem phased though.

A slapping leg kick lands for Chandler.
Gage throws a right hand that Chandler ducks under and follows up with a left that Chandler also avoids with ease.
Chandler is using his reach advantage to land shots from outside his opponent's range.
Chandler connects with a hook to the side of his opponent's head.
Gage keeping at a good range here, avoiding a leg kick.

It looks like Lawson Chandler has been cut.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Gage lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Chandler circles away quickly and effectively.

Chandler has a takedown stuffed.
Chandler throws a right high kick that is partially blocked by Gage.
Gage darts in looking for a takedown but Chandler gets double underhooks and turns Gage into the cage.
Gage has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Chandler avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Oscar Gage. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Gage is working for a takedown up against the cage. He can't get it on this occasion though.
Chandler goes for a body shot but it's blocked.

Gage throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Chandler was covering up waiting for the punch and Gage finishes the takedown easily into guard.
Gage stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Chandler swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Gage passes Chandler's right leg, so he's now in half guard.

Lawson Chandler showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. This is the final round!

Gage is looking to take a break and control but Chandler is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

Gage thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.

Gage swings around for an armbar but Chandler sees it coming a mile off and turns beautifully into Gage's guard.

Gage escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Chandler gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Gage has his foot on Chandler's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Chandler works his way back into a safe position though.
Gage wants to improve his position but instead Chandler has moved into half guard.
Chandler seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Gage does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
Gage is pressing down on Chandler's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.

Chandler got a little sloppy there for a moment and Gage has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Chandler has managed to get both his arms back between Gage's legs - danger averted.
Chandler must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Gage lands a beautiful sweep and he's now moved into his opponent's guard.

Chandler really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Gage. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
