PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Torben Virgil (ranked 4373 p4p, 4418 weight class) and Danny Rand (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Torben Virgil!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Danny Rand!
The judges for this bout are Joseph Jones, Lou da Vinci and Dean Styles.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A combination from Rand does no damage.
Virgil half commits to a counter takedown before pushing away, out of range.
Rand connects with a good right hand that stumbles Virgil. Virgil circles away out of range and recomposes himself.
Rand misses with the combination.
Rand throws a right hand that Virgil ducks under and follows up with a left that Virgil also avoids with ease.
Rand connects with a nice looking jab.
Rand misses with a two punch combination.
Virgil misses with a body kick.
Left hook, right uppercut from Rand.

Rand tries to keep at a distance but Virgil has taken the fight into the clinch.
Virgil missing with knees to the body.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Rand prevents a takedown attempt there.
Virgil tries to pull guard but Rand forces him back to his feet, against the cage.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Virgil will no doubt start fighting again in a minute but for now he's just having a little rest, leaning Rand up against the cage.
Virgil has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Rand avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Torben Virgil. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Virgil goes for a takedown attempt but Rand pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.
Rand misses with a hook

and Virgil counters by moving into the clinch.
Rand letting Virgil take a breather here.
Virgil leaning his opponent against the cage.
Rand wants to break free. God knows he wants to breaaaak freeee.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Virgil tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.
Virgil misses with a punch to the body.
Virgil using the Thai plumb to throw knees but Rand has his back arched nicely, preventing the strike.
Rand is looking to break free of the clinch but Virgil has double underhooks.
Virgil wants to take the fight to the mat but Rand manages to get underhooks and keep the fight in the clinch.

Virgil's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Rand lands with a two punch combination before moving back out of range.
Rand throws a body shot but no joy.
Rand throws a one two combo.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Rand misses with the combination.
Danny Rand seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Rand misses with a jab, cross combination.
Rand throws a right and a left that both miss.

Virgil rushes Rand and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.
Rand wants to break free but Virgil has control.

Virgil has dropped down and is working for a takedown. Rand is trying to keep an underhook but Virgil manages to get the takedown into half guard.

Rand has one foot on Virgil's thigh - he pushes off and manages to get back to his feet.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Rand cracks Virgil with a hook to the jaw. Both fighters smile at eachother and high-five before getting back down to business.

Virgil shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Virgil was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
Virgil tries to stand but Rand is controlling his head.
Rand tries to wriggle free to get back to his feet but he's given up his back! Oops.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Rand is keeping busy.
Rand wants to get back to his feet.

Rand is looking to stand back up. He's having to work hard to escape but eventually he manages it.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Danny Rand dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare each other down, ready to get back to the action.

Virgil looks for a takedown but Rand sprawls well.
Rand throws a series of punches but Virgil moves out of range.
Rand catches Virgil with a nice straight right. He seems pissed - ooooh, it's on now! On like donkey kong!

Virgil gets the takedown into side control.
Rand tries to wriggle free to get back to his feet but he's given up his back! Oops.
Rand is trying to stand back up.

Rand won't enjoy being in this position. Virgil looking for the choke. Oh... he's slipped the arm under the neck - Rand is tapping - it's over boys! Virgil picks up the submission victory!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:57 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (RNC). Torben Virgil!
