PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Derrick Ryker (ranked 3635 p4p, 2441 weight class) and Tyson Hargrave (ranked 412 p4p, 306 weight class). Hargrave has chosen Mastodon - High Road as his entrance music. Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 9 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Derrick Ryker!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Tyson Hargrave!
The judges for this bout are Dillan Fox, Steve Smith and Ian Loll.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Ryker blocks a jab.

Ryker closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.

Hargrave escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Ryker takes a jab right on the kisser.
Ryker tries to clinch but fails miserably
and Ryker takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.
Ryker looks to clinch
and Hargrave counters with a straight right hand.
Hargrave lands an overhand left. A wild punch that just about connected.
Ryker tries to clinch there but Hargrave circles away.
A little jabbing left from Hargrave on the counter but it doesn't find it's target.
Ryker wants to clinch.
Ryker closes the distance looking to clinch
and Hargrave counters with a straight punch to the midsection.
Ryker tries to close the distance and clinch up but Hargrave swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Ryker tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Hargrave paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Ryker fails in his attempt to clinch.
Hargrave connects with a hook to the side of his opponent's head.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Ryker moves to clinch but Hargrave breaks away
and Hargrave connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.

Hargrave circles away from the clinch attempt.
Jab from Hargrave.
Hargrave fakes and then throws a beautiful body shot. Ryker looks a bit winded and takes a step backwards to take a breath.
Ryker darts in trying to clinch
and Hargrave counters with a shot to the ribs. That looked like it hurt.

and Hargrave counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.
Ryker tries to clinch but Hargrave moves away

and Hargrave counters with a right hand that sends Ryker tumbling to the canvas! Can Hargrave finish him? He dives into Ryker's guard looking to do just that!

Ryker is rocked!
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Hargrave wants to pass the guard but Ryker is keeping the position.
Oh Ryker is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!!
Hargrave is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.
Ryker seems to have got his legs back now.
Hargrave trying to pass the guard. He's being very persistent here but Ryker manages to land a sweep and now he's on top!

Hargrave not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Ryker stays in close to Hargrave's body and controls the position.
Ryker stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Hargrave swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Hargrave looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
Ryker being controlled here momentarily.

Ryker avoids a guillotine attempt easily.

Hargrave is looking for a triangle here but Ryker uses the submission attempt to pass into side control.
You can see the frustration on Hargrave's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
Hargrave looks more muscular than last time we saw him. He must have been on the weights.
Hargrave is not content to let Ryker control the position.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Ryker tries to score with some ground and pound. Hargrave controls his posture well this time though and the shots don't do any damage.
Hargrave tries to improve position but can't.
Hargrave manages to get one leg in to regain half guard.
Hargrave tries to get to full guard but Ryker has control of the leg.
Ryker looking to pass the half guard. Not this time.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Tyson Hargrave dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare each other down, ready to get back to the action.

Ryker clinches up against the cage.
Hargrave has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Ryker fails to pull guard.

Hargrave drags the fight down to the ground.

Ryker avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
Hargrave manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Ryker manages to get himself to full guard.

Ryker escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Hargrave gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Ryker keeping moving, preventing Hargrave from controlling successfully.

Ryker looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
Hargrave passes into half guard.
Ryker wants to improve his position but Hargrave is controlling well.
Hargrave content to control rather than advance.

Hargrave maintaining the dominant position here and is working for a kimura. He's locked it up! Ryker could be in real trouble here! He's trying to wriggle out but Hargrave has cracked it and Ryker is screaming in pain - he's tapped out! Great finish by Hargrave!

After the fight, Tyson Hargrave was humble in paying tribute to his opponent but made it clear he wants to go on to bigger and better things. It seemed to go down well with the crowd who cheered him loudly.
