PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Gio Jazz (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Mike Donovan (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that Mike Donovan was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of New York, Gio Jazz!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Mike Donovan!
The judges for this bout are Alyssa Summers, Franklyn Lucas and John Kavanagh.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Jazz throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Donovan's waist but Donovan gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Jazz off to one side.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.

and Jazz counters with a nice jab to the body that keeps Donovan thinking.

Jazz throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Donovan was covering up waiting for the punch and Jazz finishes the takedown easily into guard.

Donovan slaps away a takedown attempt from Jazz, before circling back to the center of the mat.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Mike Donovan showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! This is the final round!

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
Jazz lands with a nice combination. Donovan backs away looking to recover.

Gio Jazz seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Jazz will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.

Jazz dives in and grabs Donovan's left leg, looking for a takedown. Donovan pushes down on Jazz's head and hops out.

Donovan has closed the distance and engaged Jazz in a clinch.
Donovan jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Jazz walks away with a smile on his face. Donovan gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.

Jazz is staying active underneath Donovan, who seems content to just control the action from this position.

Donovan is trying to control. Jazz wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.
Donovan wants to stand but his hand is trapped. Jazz uses the opportunity to regain full guard.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Jazz working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Donovan doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Donovan manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
