Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Kenny Purcell (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jimmy Nelson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). This should be fireworks!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Kenny Purcell!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Jimmy Nelson!
The judges for this bout are Gwen Towbar, Frank Dennis and George Francis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Nelson shoots for a takedown but Purcell saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
Purcell throws a head kick that misses.

Nelson changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Purcell looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
Purcell is trying to control Nelson's posture but Nelson avoids it.

Purcell throws Nelson to one side and escapes!

Purcell gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here.

Purcell manages to break the clinch.
Purcell wings a very wild body shot but it does the job and lands to the midsection.

Nelson looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into mount! Oh, that's bad for Purcell!
Nelson prevents Purcell from getting the reversal.
Nelson wants to control the pace but Purcell is squirming around nicely.
Purcell is looking to improve his position but Nelson isn't that keen on the idea.

Nelson looking to control but Purcell is working nicely, looking to advance position himself.
Nelson mounts Purcell! Really nice guard pass there!

Nelson is working for a guillotine from mount but Purcell frees his head quite easily.
Purcell is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.
Nelson tries to control but Purcell wriggling away.

Purcell defends a decent attempt at a guillotine from Nelson.
Purcell can't escape the position.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

Nelson is thinking about an arm triangle here, looking to tighten it up before moving to side control. Purcell can see it coming though and defends well with a couple of strikes to the head and some good arm positioning.

Nelson is working on an americana here. Ooh, that looks pretty nasty! Nope, Purcell has managed to escape the submission attempt.
Nelson looks gassed!
Nelson trying to control but Purcell is having none of it.

Purcell throwing punches from his back but nothing is landing.

Nelson is working for a guillotine from mount but Purcell frees his head quite easily.

Nelson moves into side control, trying to work for a kimura. That looks painful! Will he finish!!?? No, Purcell has worked his arm free - good work by Purcell!
Nelson prevents Purcell from escaping the position.
Purcell wings away with a couple of strikes but they don't land.

Nelson swings around for an armbar but Purcell sees it coming a mile off and turns beautifully into Nelson's guard.
Purcell has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Nelson is proving hard to escape from.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.

Nelson looking for a guillotine here but Purcell defends easily.
Nelson wants to sweep but no luck.
Purcell slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Jimmy Nelson dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Purcell throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Nelson tries for a takedown but Purcell sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
Purcell tries to close the distance and clinch up but Nelson swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Purcell tries to close the distance and clinch but Nelson swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Nelson fails to land the takedown.

Purcell has Nelson up against the cage in a clinch.

Purcell's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Purcell takes a shot to the eye socket. That's gotta hurt.

Nelson walks into a jab.

Nelson tries to clinch up but Purcell circles away and keeps his distance.
Nelson looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
Kenny Purcell has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Jimmy Nelson.

Purcell closes the distance and clinches.
Nelson drops to a knee looking for a takedown but Purcell gets the underhooks and prevents it.
Nelson is looking to break free of the clinch but Purcell has double underhooks.

Nelson has clasped his hands together around Purcell's back... aaand, he's got a takedown into side control. Nicely done.
Nelson is breathing heavily.
Nelson prevents Purcell from escaping the position.

Nelson tries for a kimura but Purcell is defending well.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Nelson is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Purcell knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.
Purcell is moving his hips around well on the bottom and has managed to get back to half guard.

Purcell is looking to improve his position.
Nelson wants to control but Purcell is keeping him busy.

Nelson is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Purcell defends it well.
Nelson seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Purcell does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
Purcell works his way to full guard. Good work.
Purcell controls Nelson momentarily but Nelson frees himself.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Purcell wants to get back to his feet but Nelson is in a dominant position and won't allow it.

Nelson drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Nelson jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Nelson looks for a takedown but Purcell sprawls well.
Purcell throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Nelson.
Purcell lands a jab-cross combination.
Purcell tries to close the distance and clinch up but Nelson swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Purcell moves into range and throws a lovely three punch combination.
Nelson slips a jab from Purcell.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Purcell scores with a leg kick.
Nelson shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Purcell but Purcell pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Nelson shoots in but Purcell avoids the takedown attempt easily.
Nelson takes a jab right on the nose. That must have hurt but he shrugs his shoulders and looks to return the favor.
Purcell comes forward and lands a shot to the body, then darts back out of range.
Purcell misses with a few strikes there.
Nelson fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
Nelson moves forwards but Purcell connects with a nice, crisp jab.
Nelson tries to bum rush Purcell with a series of wild strikes but Purcell uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Purcell moves in looking to clinch but Nelson pushes him off.
Purcell stuffs the takedown attempt from Nelson. Nelson gets slowly back to his feet.
Nelson fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
Nelson sees a low kick coming and goes to check it, but it's actually a body kick and it thuds into his unprotected ribs.
A punch combination from Purcell misses.

Purcell darts in and clinches Nelson up against the cage.

Nelson tries to clinch there but Purcell circles away.

Purcell lands a jab, followed by a cross and another cross, as Nelson backs up against the cage.

Nelson closes the distance and clinches up with Purcell, looking for a takedown. Nelson pushes Purcell against the cage but Purcell circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Purcell tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
Nelson keeps the fight on the outside.
Nelson shoots in for a takedown but Purcell shows good takedown defense.
Nelson shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Purcell pinned against the cage. Purcell gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Purcell lands a jab followed by a nice looking cross.
Purcell scores with a nice looking left hook and follows it up with an uppercut!
Nice body punch from Purcell.
Nelson fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Purcell will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Nelson fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.

Nelson tries to keep at a distance but Purcell has taken the fight into the clinch.
Nelson has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Purcell avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.

Purcell pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Horrible takedown by Nelson or perhaps it was just good defense by Purcell which made him look bad.
Purcell throws a left and a right that both miss

and Nelson counters with a single leg into guard. Purcell didn't expect that.
Purcell is adopting a defensive guard.
Purcell is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Nelson is controlling him.

Nelson passes Purcell's left leg - he's now in half guard.
Nelson passes the guard and advances to mount!
Purcell is in all sorts of trouble here.
Purcell wants to control but Nelson is having none of it.
Purcell is trying to stand up.
Purcell wants to control but Nelson is having none of it.
Nelson moves to take his opponent's back.

And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Kenny Purcell.
I think Purcell has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
