Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Ragnar Volarus (ranked 4298 p4p, 4401 weight class) and Jon Johnson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Jon Johnson!
The judges for this bout are Don Winkell, Timothy Bukovac and Jack Bonds.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Johnson closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.
Johnson misses with a shot to the kidneys.
Volarus misses with a hook to the ribs.

Volarus bobs and weaves and unloads with a good uppercut.
Volarus uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Johnson.

Johnson shoots in for a takedown and gets it.
Johnson is keen to just control but Volarus is a slippery customer.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Volarus moves into full guard.

Johnson passes into half guard under a barage of strikes.
Volarus is refusing to be controlled, as Johnson sits in half guard.
Johnson slips a nice elbow through Volarus's hands, connecting with Volarus's forehead.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Johnson moves into side control, avoiding the strikes from Volarus.
Volarus tries to control but Johnson manages to take his back.
Johnson keeps control of the position easily here as Volarus tries to buck him off.
Johnson lands with a big left hand that may well have hurt his opponent. Can Volarus hold on?!

Volarus is very frustrated here, being controlled quite effectively by Johnson.

Volarus is staying cool under pressure, defending well against the rear naked choke attempt from his opponent.

Johnson lands with a hammerfist to the side of Volarus's head.

Johnson looking to break Volarus's wrist control so he can sink in the choke. Volarus remaining controlled and patient though - he really has to keep calm otherwise Johnson will wrap this one up with the rear naked choke!

Johnson has his hand under the chin of his opponent looking for the choke. He's nearly got it! This one could be all over! But no, Volarus has freed his hand and lives to survive another… well, another couple of seconds at least!
Volarus controlling the position well but he knows he's in a bad spot.

Volarus scores with a few weak punches.
Volarus wants to improve his position but Johnson is controlling well.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up.
Volarus lands a jab, followed by a cross and another cross, as Johnson backs up against the cage.
Ragnar Volarus is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.

Johnson closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
Johnson connects with a decent looking elbow from side control that caused Volarus some visible discomfort.
Johnson tries to stand but Volarus is controlling his head.
Volarus takes a nasty elbow to the side of the head.
Volarus tries to get back to half guard but can't.
Johnson has knee on belly and moves into mount.

Johnson is going oldschool here, as he tries to force Volarus to tap using a forearm choke. This isn't 1993 though, so Volarus shrugs it off.

Volarus defends a decent attempt at a guillotine from Johnson.
Johnson is breathing heavily.

Volarus can't escape the position.
Volarus on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Volarus tries to get out of the position.
Johnson looking to control and managing it successfully.
Jon Johnson has got the better of the ground game so far.
Johnson wants to control the pace but Volarus is squirming around nicely.

Johnson has his opponent pinned against the cage, landing some nasty ground and pound that is really making a bit of a mess out of Volarus's face.

That's time! Volarus's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. This is the final round!

Johnson throws a leg kick but he was too far away and it doesn't land.
Volarus lands a nice shot to the body.

Johnson shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Johnson was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
Volarus tries to bench press Johnson off him but Johnson keeps the position.
Johnson has control of an arm but Volarus manages to advance to Johnson's back!
Volarus is looking to finish with some ground and pound!
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Johnson is trying to get back to his feet but he's not managed it yet.
Volarus thows a huge left but connects with the canvas and not his opponent.
Volarus connects with a big shot to the side of Johnson's head.
Volarus is not going to allow Johnson to sit and survive in this position.
Johnson takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Volarus is hanging on to Johnson's back as he tries to escape.

Volarus lands with a hammerfist to the side of Johnson's head.

Volarus knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Johnson on the ground.
Volarus doesn't have the hooks in and Johnson manages to turn into his guard.

Volarus is looking to control Johnson's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Volarus avoid being mounted?

Johnson is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Volarus sees it coming and defends easily.
Ragnar Volarus has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

Johnson is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
Volarus works the jab nicely.
Johnson has his hands up protecting his head but a hook from Volarus finds it's way round the side to connect with Johnson's head.
Volarus defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Johnson.
A counter left hand to the body from Volarus misses its target.

Volarus drops Johnson with a straight left! Oh this is bad for Johnson! Volarus dives in and starts dropping bombs - the referee has no choice but to step in and save him!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:13 of round 3, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Ragnar Volarus!
A very excited looking Ragnar Volarus made sure he remembered to thank all the fans both in the arena and on the internet. He said all the coolest people spend all day on MMA websites, which got a big reaction.
