The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Steve misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Akinaga.
Akinaga moves into range and throws a lovely three punch combination.

Steve throws a leg kick which misses Akinaga's front leg but catches the back leg as Akinaga tries to avoid it.
Well, he's not going to score with shots like that. A lazy body kick attempt from Steve.

Akinaga throws a looping overhand right but Steve ducks down to avoid it.
Steve needs to keep his hands up - Akinaga had a free shot at his head there.
Boom, another hit is landed. "You're gunna get knocked out" taunts Akinaga, as that shot connected.
Steve looks to have improved his striking defense since last time we saw him fight.

A little feinted left hand from Steve on the counter but he doesn't commit to it.

Steve takes a big uppercut there. He seems a bit wobbly but no, he's OK.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Kiso Akinaga seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Akinaga is landing a lot of head punches in this opening round! Steve had better start moving his head a bit unless he wants his face to turn into mush.

Akinaga will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.

Steve drops Akinaga onto one knee with a big uppercut from the clinch! Akinaga is propped up by the cage and works his way back to his feet!

Akinaga tries to clinch up but Steve pushes him back against the cage and lands another monster strike that crumples Akinaga to the mat! Akinaga covers up and Steve unloads with more strikes until the referee steps in to end the bout!
