PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between GK King (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Lazarus Slade (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, GK King!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 2 - 1, fighting out of Sydney, Lazarus Slade!
The judges for this bout are Summer Carpenter, Donatello Bradman and Skip Squint.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
King misses with a body shot.
King misses with the combination.
King misses with a hook.
King fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Slade manages to avoid it.
King swinging wilding here.
King swings for the body but Slade moves out of range.
King looks to score with a jab to the body but Slade is just out of range.
King throws a body punch but Slade moves out of range.
King misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Slade.
King wings a very wild body shot but it does the job and lands to the midsection.

Slade darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.
Both fighters really going for it on the ground here!
King wants to improve his position but Slade is controlling well.
Slade tries to pass the half guard into mount. King knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.
King might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
King wants to get back to his feet.

King is staying active underneath Slade, who seems content to just control the action from this position.

Slade wants to work for an arm triangle but King is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

King lands with a hook. Slade tried to avoid it but it clipped the top of his head.
King punishes Slade's body with a nice straight punch.

The crowd cheers as King lands an impressive looking overhand right. Slade doesn't seem phased though.

Slade has his hands up protecting his head but a hook from King finds it's way round the side to connect with Slade's head.

King scores with a sloppy right hand. Slade should have avoided that one.
King throws a right hand that Slade ducks under and follows up with a left that Slade also avoids with ease.
King looks to throw the jab but Slade is out of range.

King uses good footwork to get in and out, landing a nice hook.
King tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Slade was well out of range. Poor timing from King.

King throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.

The fighters circling - King throws out the jab but it was never going to land.
Slade is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
King throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
King ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Slade moves away.
King jabbing away but nothing is landing.
King throws out a token jab with nothing on it.
King lands with a right hand.
A punch combination from King misses.
King looks to land a combination but Slade avoids it well.

Slade shoots in and bounces King off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.
Slade trying to control the position from guard on top but King is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Slade controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
King pulls Slade in close to prevent any damage.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


King throws a lazy right hand but Slade sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily.
King scores to the head and body with a nice combination!
The fighters circling - King throws out the jab but it was never going to land.
King connects with the punch.
Slade shoots in looking for a takedown. King tries to sprawl out of it but Slade keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. King manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
King looks to land a right hand but Slade moved out of range.
King misses with a wild body shot.
King lands a glancing blow to the side of Slade's head.
King cracks Slade with a good shot that sees him stumbling back into the cage.
King lands with a two punch combination before moving back out of range.
The crowd cheers as King lands an impressive looking overhand right. Slade doesn't seem phased though.

Slade shoots in for a takedown but King shows good takedown defense.

King cracks Slade with a good jab.
King scores with a big left there. The judges will like that one.
King moving in and out of range nicely, whilst landing the scoring shot.
King lands with a nice body punch.
GK King is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.

Slade uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from King.

The fighters circle momentarily. King darts into range and connects with a nice straight punch.
GK King seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
King looks to land a left hand but Slade moved out of range nicely.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Horrible takedown by Slade or perhaps it was just good defense by King which made him look bad.

King fakes and then throws a beautiful body shot. Slade looks a bit winded and takes a step backwards to take a breath.

King clobbers Slade with an overhand right that has the crowd gasping. That made a horrendous noise.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
King ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Slade moves away.
King fakes low and throws an overhand right that catches Slade on the side of the head.

Slade looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.
Slade wants to lay and pray for a moment but King keeps working.
Slade prevents King from improving his position.
King is not content to let Slade control the position.
Slade works his foot free and advances to mount.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Slade working to secure an arm triangle but it's not happening for him just yet.

King wants to use the cage to get back to his feet here.
Slade seems to be looking to move to his opponent's back but King is holding on tight.
Lazarus Slade has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
King trying desperately to get to his feet.
King looking to escape from mount but he's given up his back!

Slade is looking for the choke from the back position but King is controlling his hands well.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Slade controlling well, preventing King from escaping the position.
King holding both Slade 's hands and preventing any damage.
King is trying to break free.
King is trying to stand back up.

Slade is working hard for the rear naked choke here.
King is trying to get back to his feet but Slade has full control of the position and if anything, King has just worked his way into a worse spot.
GK King is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
King tries to roll but Slade sticks to his back.

Lazarus Slade comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think King has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
