This TWGC bout is 1 fifteen minute round in the super heavyweight division. Introducing today's competitors. In the red corner, competing out of New York, with a TWGC record of 12 wins and 4 losses; Nick Rodriquez! And in the blue corner, fighting out of Amsterdam, with a TWGC record of 32 wins and 37 losses; Roman Boesku!
The judges for this bout are Chris Saunders, Paul Gruel and Colin Fray.


The fighters bow as they face eachother in the middle of the mat and we are under way.

Rodriquez changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Boesku looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.

Boesku sneaks a leg under to get back to half guard.
Rodriquez has been talking about how he's improved his wrestling in the run up to the fight so let's see if that's enough to sway the balance.

Rodriquez is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.

Rodriquez uses his free foot to push down on Boesku's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Boesku.

Rodriquez takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.

Rodriquez is not going to allow Boesku to sit and survive in this position.
Boesku is trying to break free.

What can Boesku do to escape this position? He's going to have to figure it out pretty quick if he wants to stay in the fight!
Rodriquez seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Boesku for as long as he can get away with.

Rodriquez will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

Rodriquez's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

I really don't envy Boesku right now.
Rodriquez biding his time, controlling Boesku.

Rodriquez is trying to stick to Boesku's back but Boesku is turning into Rodriquez. He's managed to reverse the position - now he's in Rodriquez's guard. Polite applause from the crowd in appreciation of some nice Jiu Jitsu by Boesku.

Boesku is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
Rodriquez pulls Boesku in close to prevent any damage.
Rodriquez tries to land a sweep but no joy.

Boesku wants to control from the top but Rodriquez keeps moving.
Rodriquez is adopting a defensive guard.
Boesku forces his way into half guard.
Rodriquez is holding on to half guard well.
Still in half guard, Boesku seems content to control.

Rodriquez is trying to get back to full guard.
My spies in Average Judas Gym inform me that Boesku has been getting involved in the gym's BJJ sparring sessions. Let's see whether that pays dividends!

Boesku is just content to waste time from the top position. Rodriquez takes advantage of the situation and regains full guard.
Rodriquez wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now.

Rodriquez is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
