PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Mickey O Neil (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Spencer Fisher JR (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Mickey O Neil!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Spencer Fisher JR!
The judges for this bout are Summer Carpenter, Skip Squint and Winston Howard.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A big left from O Neil misses.
O Neil tries to close the distance and clinch up but Fisher JR swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Fisher JR shoots in looking for a takedown. O Neil tries to sprawl out of it but Fisher JR keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. O Neil manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
O Neil tries to close the distance and clinch up but Fisher JR swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Fisher JR shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with O Neil but O Neil pushes him off and we're back to square one.
O Neil is looking to clinch but Fisher JR is avoiding it.

Fisher JR drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.
O Neil looking to sweep using the butterfly guard but Fisher JR puts pay to that idea as he passes nicely into half guard.
O Neil trying to hold on to Fisher JR's head to control him but Fisher JR postures up.

Fisher JR stands up and beckons O Neil to join him on the feet.
O Neil tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.

O Neil throws a hard body shot but it just misses.

Fisher JR scores with a nice takedown into half guard. Let's see what he's got on the ground.

O Neil is looking for a sweep. Fisher JR is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.

O Neil is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Fisher JR's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Fisher JR's back!

Fisher JR has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. O Neil is working away from the top position though.
Fisher JR is staying active underneath O Neil, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
O Neil missing with some ground and pound from the half guard.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
O Neil shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Fisher JR pinned against the cage. Fisher JR gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Fisher JR throws a leg kick that misses.
Fisher JR throws a nice looking combination but O Neil bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.
O Neil swats away the attempt to clinch by Fisher JR.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
O Neil misses with a takedown attempt - Fisher JR sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
O Neil tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.

Fisher JR feints and as O Neil raises his hands in defense, Fisher JR changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

O Neil wants to stand and escape but Fisher JR is having none of it.

O Neil misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.

O Neil bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.

Fisher JR might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control O Neil kaven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.

Fisher JR is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
O Neil slows the pace down in half guard.

O Neil seems to be working for a kimura but Fisher JR defends the submission attempt.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

Fisher JR manages to escape and get back to his feet!
Fisher JR stuffs the takedown attempt from O Neil. O Neil gets slowly back to his feet.

Fisher JR closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming O Neil to the mat! O Neil manages to get full guard.
O Neil is trying to keep Fisher JR in close.
Fisher JR is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.

O Neil throws his legs up looking to secure a triangle. Oh, that looks pretty tight, I gotta say! Fisher JR escapes and throws O Neil's legs to the side, diving into side control!

Fisher JR is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, O Neil has escaped the position, nice work there.
O Neil tries to bench press Fisher JR off him but Fisher JR keeps the position.
O Neil wants to control but Fisher JR postures up.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.

Fisher JR is trying to get an arm triangle but O Neil is defending well.

Fisher JR tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.
O Neil is trying to control Fisher JR's posture but Fisher JR avoids it.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Spencer Fisher JR showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's time! O Neil's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. Let's get this one finished - here comes the final round!


Fisher JR lands an overhand left. A wild punch that just about connected.

Fisher JR shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.
O Neil throwing some rather feeble looking strikes off his back.

O Neil manages to capitalize on a mistake by Fisher JR to take his back!

O Neil has his opponent's back and is working for the choke.
O Neil gets his hands free as Fisher JR looks to control.
O Neil struggling to keep hold of the position.
A bit of a pause in the action here. O Neil controlling the positon.
O Neil is trying to stick to Fisher JR's back but Fisher JR is turning into O Neil. He's managed to reverse the position - now he's in O Neil's guard. Polite applause from the crowd in appreciation of some nice Jiu Jitsu by Fisher JR.
Spencer Fisher JR has got the better of the ground game so far.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Fisher JR's corner is telling him to maintain position.

Fisher JR avoids a guillotine attempt easily.

O Neil is working an open guard so Fisher JR takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Fisher JR lands with an uppercut that bounces O Neil off the cage and back into rage.
O Neil shoots in looking for a takedown. Fisher JR tries to sprawl out of it but O Neil keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Fisher JR manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Mickey O Neil has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Spencer Fisher JR is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.

O Neil gets caught flat footed, as Fisher JR shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.

Spencer Fisher JR comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Fisher JR has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
