PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Osiris Egyptian (ranked 849 p4p, 1891 weight class) and Pavel Sekera (ranked 131 p4p, 247 weight class). Sekera has chosen Bleed it out as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. Fingers crossed for an exciting fight - I'm sure both fighters are looking for a nice under the table bonus!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 40 - 22 - 1, fighting out of Montreal, Osiris Egyptian!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 12 - 6 - 1, fighting out of New York, Pavel Sekera!
The judges for this bout are Hugh Johnson, Eliza Hachem and Winston Howard.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Sekera tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Egyptian defends well and Sekera ends up having to push Egyptian into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch.
Egyptian swung with a counter right hand that didn't connect.
Sekera tries for a takedown but Egyptian circles away easily
and Egyptian counters with a right hand to the body.
Nice takedown defense from Egyptian. No joy for Sekera on that attempt.
Osiris Egyptian has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Pavel Sekera.

Sekera gets in close and instigates a clinch.

Egyptian has hold of one of Sekera's legs. Sekera is fighting the takedown attempt but Egyptian gets the trip and lands the takedown into guard.

Egyptian has improved his flexibility recently so we will have to see if he can use that to his advantage.

Egyptian is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Sekera has escaped the position, nice work there.
Egyptian gets to mount! Sekera was on the offensive and wasn't defending properly.
Sekera reaches up to try and control the position but Egyptian seems to have an arm triangle now! Uh oh! Sekera rolls and tries to escape and now Egyptian has his back!

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
I really don't envy Sekera right now.
Egyptian controls the action.
Egyptian has the hooks in. Sekera is trying to push off one leg but he has to do so cautiously to avoid being submitted.
Egyptian is looking to control Sekera but Sekera is wriggling around and keeping busy.
Sekera felt the need to train up his defensive grappling in the buildup to the fight. Presumably he was expecting to be in a difficult position like this, so let's see if he can get out of it.
So, who will make the next big move? In this position it could be crucial.

Sekera just trying to survive but Egyptian is wriggling into a better position, looking to finish.

The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Egyptian seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Sekera for as long as he can get away with.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!

Egyptian shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Sekera lands three nice shots there - that looked like it hurt!
Egyptian scores with a reasonable looking shot to the body. Sekera doesn't seem bothered though.

Egyptian wants to control from the top but Sekera keeps moving.
Sekera is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

The fighters are battling for position here. Sekera manages to regain full guard. Nice work.
Egyptian controls the pace of the fight for a moment.

Sekera is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Egyptian is controlling him.
The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.

Egyptian got a little sloppy there for a moment and Sekera has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Egyptian has managed to get both his arms back between Sekera's legs - danger averted.

Pavel Sekera showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. This is the final round!

Horrible takedown attempt by Sekera or perhaps it was just good defense by Egyptian, which made it look bad.

Sekera goes for a takedown attempt but Egyptian pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.

Sekera is in a good position here but he's just trying to control... And he's not even managing to do that successfully.
Sekera has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Egyptian is proving hard to escape from.
Sekera stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Egyptian swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Sekera wanted to stand there but Egyptian had control of the position.

Sekera pushes down on Egyptian's leg and manages to get into half guard.

Sekera decides to stand and escape the position.
Egyptian misses with a body shot.
Sekera dives in for a single leg takedown but Egyptian sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage.
Egyptian is looking to counter with a shot to the body.
Sekera slaps away a takedown attempt from Egyptian, before circling back to the center of the mat.

Sekera is stalling here.

Egyptian has Sekera pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Sekera manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing.
Egyptian just leaning against Sekera, taking a breather.
Sekera drops down looking for an ankle pick but Egyptian pulls his leg out and moves away.

The fight moves into the clinch position.
Sekera is trying to drag Egyptian to the mat but Egyptian just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there.

Egyptian tries a knee to the head but Sekera blocks it.

And that's the end of the fight!
Pavel Sekera comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Sekera has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
