PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Eric Jacquin (ranked 1362 p4p, 4121 weight class) and Hirata Hitoshi (ranked 194 p4p, 463 weight class). Well, I have no idea who's going to take this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 13 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Eric Jacquin!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 8 - 8 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Hirata Hitoshi!
The judges for this bout are Jorge Garcia, Bruno Lombardi and Anthony Taglia.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Jacquin darts in and out, connecting with a jab.
Hitoshi shakes his hands off, looking to compose himself, but takes a jab to the jaw whilst he does it.
Hitoshi swings away with a body shot that misses
and Jacquin counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.
Hitoshi is looking to take this fight into the clinch.

Hitoshi throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Jacquin sees it coming and avoids it easily.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Hitoshi ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face.

Hitoshi closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Jacquin to the mat! Jacquin manages to get full guard.

Hitoshi seems a little lost for a moment, as Jacquin dominates the positioning.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Hitoshi is looking to reverse the position.
Hitoshi is not content to let Jacquin control the position.
Hitoshi is trying to get back to half guard.

Jacquin has knee on belly momentarily but Hitoshi bucks him off and regains half guard.
Jacquin wants to pass the guard but Hitoshi is defending well.

Jacquin stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Hitoshi swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Jacquin is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.

Hitoshi throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.
Jacquin misses with a straight left.
Hitoshi darts in looking for a takedown but Jacquin gets double underhooks and turns Hitoshi into the cage.

Hitoshi shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Jacquin napping and manages to drive through into side control!

My spies in DF Fitnesscentrum inform me that Hitoshi has been getting involved in the gym's BJJ sparring sessions. Let's see whether that pays dividends!

Hitoshi is in a world of trouble here. He's outmatched on the ground here and he'd better get Jacquin off his back sharpish unless he wants to be submitted.

Hitoshi is sitting in close to Jacquin's body. Jacquin has gone for a guillotine from the bottom. Oh damn, that looks pretty tight! Hitoshi is panicking - it looks like this one could be all over! Yes, Hitoshi is tapping! That was a very nice submission by Jacquin.
