PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Jose Rizal (ranked 3877 p4p, 4344 weight class) and Mike Jones (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Jones comes into a darkened arena with his song building. Major Distribution kicks in, the lights come on and the crowd goes wild! What a showman! On his way into the cage it seems that Jose Rizal has been attacked by a crazed fan! It looks like it might have been the just bleed guy! Luckily Jose Rizal seems to be OK! I thought that lunatic was in prison!?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Jose Rizal!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Mike Jones!
The judges for this bout are Dirk Anderson, Bart Greer and Peter Branson.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Jones tries to clinch up but Rizal circles away and keeps his distance.
Jones looks for the body kick but Rizal saw that one coming.

Rizal moves into the clinch.
Jones wants to take the fight to the mat but Rizal manages to get underhooks and keep the fight in the clinch.

Rizal turns his back and goes for a hip toss. It's a bit messy but it gets the job done and Rizal manages to end up in side control.
Rizal tries to move to mount but Jones blocks the move with his legs.
Jones is looking for a sweep.
Jones is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Rizal wants to control but Jones is keeping him busy.
Jones tries to get back to half guard but can't.

You can see the frustration on Jones's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
Rizal advances to mount.

Rizal jumps to side control looking for an arm triangle but Jones manages to avoid the submission attempt.

Jones working to try and regain half guard.
Jones wants to hold on but Rizal pushes him away.
Jones is squirming around, avoiding Rizal's attempts to control the action.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.

Jones is displaying good submission defense - not really looking in danger of submitting to the rear naked choke at the moment. That could change in an instant of course if Rizal gets his way!

Jones throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Rizal was covering up waiting for the punch and Jones finishes the takedown easily into guard.

Jones is looking to stand up but Rizal won't let him.

Rizal is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Jones can do to turn this around?
Jones pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Rizal is keeping the position for now.
We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Rizal is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Rizal wants to control but Jones is keeping him busy.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

Jones is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Rizal pulls his head out easily.
Jones keeps control of the position for the meantime.
Rizal stalling away here and it's allowed Jones to slip out his trapped foot and regain full guard.

Jones throws his legs up looking to secure a triangle. Oh, that looks pretty tight, I gotta say! Rizal escapes and throws Jones's legs to the side, diving into side control!

Rizal working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.
Jones tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Rizal wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.

Rizal is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Jones has escaped the position, nice work there.
Rizal tries to advance to mount but can't.

Jones trying to control but Rizal flips him over like a cheap hooker and has his back!

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Jones can't escape the position.

Rizal is looking for the choke from the back position but Jones is controlling his hands well.

Rizal definitely looks more muscular than last time we saw him fight.
Rizal is trying to stick to Jones's back but Jones is turning into Rizal. He's managed to reverse the position - now he's in Rizal's guard. Polite applause from the crowd in appreciation of some nice Jiu Jitsu by Jones.

Jones not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.

A close second round but Mike Jones will probably get the nod - 10:9.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. This is the final round!


Rizal has managed to clinch.

Rizal is working on a single leg takedown against the cage. Jones can't fight it off and eventually Rizal manages to take the fight to the floor. Jones looks annoyed but at least he's managed to land in guard.
Jones has control of Rizal's left arm, preventing Rizal from doing any damage.

Jones is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.

Rizal is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Jones is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.
Jones is trying to control Rizal's posture but Rizal avoids it.

Rizal wants to lay and pray for a moment but Jones keeps working.
Rizal trying to control from Jones's half guard. Jones has other ideas though and has regained full guard.
Rizal might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

Jones is working actively from the bottom, looking for submissions. He's escaped his hips to the side and he's going for an armbar! Rizal has his hands clasped together but Jones extends and breaks Rizal's desperate grasp, forcing a tap out due to armbar! Nice BJJ displayed there by Jones.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:59 of round 3, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Mike Jones!
Mike Jones took to the mic in his post fight interview and said 'I got the dub baby! But my opponent fought a hell of a fight so give it up for him. Hey. I know you'll back better than ever and would love to run it back.'.
