Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Diego Sanchez!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Johnny Puma!
The judges for this bout are Stewart Dunkirk, Cecil Peabody and Gwen Towbar.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Puma uses good footwork to get in and out and land a nice right hand before Sanchez has time to react.
Sanchez slips under a jab from Puma.
A counter left hand to the body from Sanchez misses its target.
Puma misses with an uppercut
and Sanchez counters with a nice body shot.
Sanchez lands with a good body shot.
Sanchez moves out of range of the strikes.
Sanchez misses with a right hand
and Puma cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.
Nice defenses there by Sanchez.
Sanchez attempts a counter takedown but Puma avoids it well and moves away.
Puma fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Sanchez avoids it really well and circles away.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Puma lands an overhand left. A wild punch that just about connected.
Sanchez uses good head movement to avoid the hook from Puma.
Puma tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Sanchez was well out of range. Poor timing from Puma.

Sanchez thows a left - swing and a miss!
Sanchez slips under a jab.
Sanchez feinted there with a counter leg kick.

Puma closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Puma lands in his opponent's guard.
Puma stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Sanchez swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Sanchez has his hands on Puma's head, controlling the position.
Sanchez is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Sanchez wants to get back to his feet but Puma is in a dominant position and won't allow it.

Puma tries to free his leg and advance position but Sanchez is retaining full guard.
Sanchez looking to control the pace of the fight rather than finish it.

Puma passes Sanchez's right leg, so he's now in half guard.
Puma wants to advance to full mount but Sanchez doesn't think that's going to happen and regains full guard instead.

Puma stops Sanchez from getting back to his feet.
Puma is looking to advance position but Sanchez won't allow it.

Sanchez can't keep his opponent in guard - Puma advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.
Puma frees up his trapped foot and advances to mount.

Puma jumps to the side looking to secure the arm triangle…. Ooooh, that looks tight… Sanchez is gargling but he's managed to escape! Nice work there by Sanchez and Puma has given up the dominant position trying to land that submission.

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Puma is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Sanchez has escaped the position, nice work there.

Puma thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.

Puma goes for an armbar here - this could be all over! But no, Sanchez has escaped beautifully and is now on top in side control! Oh, that's unlucky for Puma but great work by Sanchez.
Puma can't do much from the bottom here.
Sanchez wants to control but Puma is keeping him busy.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
You can see the frustration on Puma's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.

Puma swings wildly with a hook that is half blocked by Sanchez.

Puma might want to mix his strikes up a bit more. He's just going for head shots at the moment and that can become a bit predictable.

Puma fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.

We've been told by Sanchez's head coaches at Mentor Gym that he's been working on his takedown defense in preparation for this fight.

and Sanchez counters with a single leg into guard. Puma didn't expect that.
Puma wants to sweep here but Sanchez controlling him for the moment.

Sanchez wants to control from the top but Puma keeps moving.
Puma has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Puma has his hands on Sanchez's head, controlling the position.

And Puma tries to counter it with a takedown but Sanchez pushes his down on his head and steps out.

Puma misses with a lunging right hand

and Sanchez counters with a nice double leg into half guard.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Sanchez wants to lay and pray for a moment but Puma keeps working.
Sanchez seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime.
Puma manages to get to full guard.

Our spies down at at Ground Zero Workout Gym inform us that Puma has really been working on his submissions in the buildup to this fight. Will it pay off?

Johnny Puma showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.

Sanchez fires out a quick counter leg kick but Puma just manages to avoid it.

Sanchez is rocked!
Sanchez leaves his chin hanging out and Puma seizes the opportunity with an uppercut! Sanchez crumbles to the floor in a heap, and the referee steps in and tends to the downed fighter! What a knockout!
