PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Tapad Amiga (ranked 24733 p4p, 24532 weight class) and Rico Salvacion (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Man, I cannot wait for this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 12 - 22 - 2, fighting out of Las Vegas, Tapad Amiga!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 12 - 24 - 3, fighting out of Las Vegas, Rico Salvacion!
The judges for this bout are Chris Downing, Frank Dennis and Gwen Towbar.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
We've got one fighter who appears to only be looking to counter and the other not looking particularly aggressive either, so we could be in for a dull fight.

Amiga gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.
Amiga is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Salvacion engaging in some classic timewasting tactics.
We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Amiga enables Salvacion to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Amiga manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.
Salvacion wants to control from the top but Amiga keeps moving.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.

Salvacion is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.
Amiga pulls Salvacion in close to his closed guard and prevents Salvacion from doing any damage or advancing position.

Amiga controls Salvacion momentarily but Salvacion frees himself.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Amiga is defended easily by Salvacion.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Salvacion shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Amiga as he avoids it easily.
Amiga thinks about countering with a body kick.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Rico Salvacion dominated that round.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!

Amiga just misses with a punch to the body.
Salvacion stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Salvacion wants it to stay on the feet.
Amiga goes for a double leg but Salvacion avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Salvacion continues to drive forward.
As Amiga backs off Salvacion throws a huge counter combo but Amiga manages to avoid it all.

Salvacion turns his back and goes for a hip toss. It's a bit messy but it gets the job done and Salvacion manages to end up in side control.

Salvacion creates some space and throws a big elbow, but Amiga sees it coming and moves his head just enough to avoid the strike.

Amiga is letting Salvacion control him for a moment.
You can see the frustration on Amiga's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
Amiga is in a bad position, trying to hold on for dear life but he is really struggling to maintain any sort of control.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Salvacion is looking to take a break and control but Amiga is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.
Amiga tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Salvacion swivels and escapes.
Salvacion follows through with a counter body kick but it doesn't land.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Tapad Amiga. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Amiga bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
Salvacion has been the more effective fighter overall so far.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Amiga creates a bit of distance and throws down some hard shots.
Salvacion is looking to regain half guard here but Amiga keeps moving and retains side control.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Salvacion shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Amiga sprawls well. Amiga wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Salvacion gets slowly back to his feet.
Amiga feinted there with a counter leg kick.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

A close second round but Rico Salvacion will probably get the nod - 10:9.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.

Amiga goes for a double leg but Salvacion avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Salvacion continues to drive forward.

Amiga has double underhooks and is working for a body lock takedown. He's got it. The fighters land in half guard but Salvacion regains guard immediately.

Amiga's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.
