PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Keenan Berry (ranked 6115 p4p, 5253 weight class) and Carlos Zapata (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Berry comes to the cage accompanied by Ladies and Gentleman. Carlos Zapata has the eye of the tiger tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Keenan Berry!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Carlos Zapata!
The judges for this bout are Illya Tyunina, Fedor Mirinova and Ivan Kurochkin.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Zapata fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
Berry misses with a kick to the body.

Berry closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Zapata to the mat! Zapata manages to get full guard.

Berry swung with a counter punch to the body but it didn't connect.

Zapata gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Berry to score an easy takedown into full guard.

Berry drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Berry jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

Berry takes a little break here. Zapata wants to take advantage but he is being controlled well.

Zapata managing to avoid any damage from the strikes thrown by Berry.
Zapata tries to control but end up mounted... ooooh, that's bad.
Zapata holding onto his opponent's waist for dear life, as Berry tries to land some strikes to get him to release his grip.
Zapata wants to improve position but instead he's given up his back.
Berry punches the canvas rather than the man.
Zapata really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Berry. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Berry just keeping the dominant position. He can't wait too long though, otherwise the referee will stand them back up.

Berry is remaining active here, looking for the choke. The more discerning members of the crowd will appreciate his efforts.

And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Berry seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Zapata for as long as he can get away with.

Berry's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.

After the fight, Keenan Berry was humble in paying tribute to his opponent but made it clear he wants to go on to bigger and better things. It seemed to go down well with the crowd who cheered him loudly.
