PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Rodrigo Medeiros (ranked 4291 p4p, 5436 weight class) and Senshi Yoshikawa (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). The crowd seem to be enjoying Yoshikawa's choice of entrance music: Free Me by Beyond The Black. I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that Senshi Yoshikawa was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Rodrigo Medeiros!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Senshi Yoshikawa!
The judges for this bout are Edson Gomes, Matheus Silva and Thiago Cunha.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Medeiros avoids the head kick by Yoshikawa.
Medeiros keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
Yoshikawa swinging wildly here.
Medeiros is looking to counter the offense by Yoshikawa and move into the clinch.
Yoshikawa walks into a stiff left hand from Medeiros.
Yoshikawa will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
Medeiros changes levels looking for a counter takedown but doesn't commit.
Yoshikawa dives in and grabs Medeiros's left leg, looking for a takedown. Medeiros pushes down on Yoshikawa's head and hops out.
A little feinted left hand from Medeiros on the counter but he doesn't commit to it.
Rodrigo Medeiros has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Senshi Yoshikawa.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Medeiros has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
This is a sustained period of stalling by Medeiros.

Medeiros decides to stand back up. Medeiros steps back and let's Yoshikawa get back to his feet.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Medeiros with a jab.
Medeiros will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
Yoshikawa jabbing away but nothing is landing.
Medeiros was looking to counter that move with a punch but didn't quite pull the trigger.
Yoshikawa darts in trying to clinch
and Medeiros counters nicely by changing levels and landing a hook to the body.
Medeiros changes levels and scores with a jab to the body.
Yoshikawa throws a sloppy head kick

and Medeiros counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
Medeiros sitting in guard here, content to control.
Medeiros continues to stall.

More hug and hope from Medeiros.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up.
Medeiros slips a straight right by Yoshikawa.
Medeiros is looking to counter punch.
Medeiros with a nice cross.
Yoshikawa throws a quick inside leg kick.
Yoshikawa throws a nice head kick!
Medeiros scores with a crisp jab that stopped Yoshikawa in his tracks.

That has opened up Senshi Yoshikawa's cut even more.
Yoshikawa swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Yoshikawa walks into a left hand.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Medeiros lands a lovely overhand right.
Medeiros lands with an uppercut that bounces Yoshikawa off the cage and back into range.
Medeiros lands an overhand left. A wild punch that just about connected.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Rodrigo Medeiros dominated that round.
The cut man is working on Senshi Yoshikawa's cut.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.

A jab from Medeiros does it's job there.
Yoshikawa takes a shot to the nose. Hopefully that hasn't broken it.
Medeiros connects with a right hand. Yoshikawa shakes it off.

Yoshikawa is rocked!

Medeiros closes the distance looking for a takedown. Yoshikawa stuffs it but Medeiros still has hold of him. Medeiros picks Yoshikawa up in a fireman's lift! The crowd roars in approval. Medeiros slams Yoshikawa to the floor and that's really hurt Yoshikawa - he doesn't know where he is! Medeiros throws a couple of strikes and the referee steps in to save him! This one is in the books!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:20 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Rodrigo Medeiros!
