PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Tan Zan (ranked 2005 p4p, 2251 weight class) and Richmond Belvedere (ranked 269 p4p, 302 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 35 - 19 - 2, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Tan Zan!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 10 - 10 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Richmond Belvedere!
The judges for this bout are Timothy Bukovac, Jack Bonds and Percy O'Donnell.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Zan pushing out the jab but it's not landing.
Belvedere lands a body shot.
Zan throws out a powerful jab.
Belvedere misses with a right hand
and Zan makes him pay by landing a nice hook to the body before moving out of range.
Zan lunges in with an uppercut that skims his opponent's chin.
Belvedere on the wrong end of a decent looking cross there.
We've been told by Zan's head coaches at Alpha Brasil that he's been working on his takedown defense in preparation for this fight.
Zan takes a really solid shot there but just smiles back and shrugs his shoulders.
Zan misses the shot to the body.

Zan has closed the distance and engaged Belvedere in a clinch.
Zan fails to land with a short punch on the inside.
With the fighters clinched against the cage, Zan creates a bit of distance for himself and scores with a nice uppercut.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
A short right from Belvedere.
Belvedere changes levels and goes for a takedown here. Zan fights it off and pushes away nicely.
Zan misses with a lunging right hand
and Belvedere counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.
Zan thuds a left hand into Belvedere's body.
A swing and a miss from Zan.
Belvedere throws a big shot that misses.
Zan looks to throw the jab but Belvedere is out of range.

Zan swats away the attempt to clinch by Belvedere.
Zan misses with a hook.
Belvedere bobs and weaves and throws out a fast jab that snaps Zan's head backwards.
Zan scores with a shot to the body.
Belvedere tries to clinch up but Zan circles away and keeps his distance.

Zan closes the distance and pushes Belvedere back into the cage.
Zan pushes Belvedere back against the cage and unloads with a body punch.
Zan lands with a short shot to the head.
Zan gets double underhooks to prevent a takedown attempt from Belvedere.
Belvedere looks winded!
Zan lands a left hand that snaps the head of Belvedere backwards.
Zan struggles to land a body shot inside as Belvedere controls his hands.
Belvedere tries to land knees in the clinch but Zan avoids the damage to the body.
Zan misses with the head strike.
Zan blocks an uppercut.
Zan misses with a hook from the clinch.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Zan avoids the elbow strike from Belvedere, against the cage.
Zan managing to block the knees to the body from Belvedere.
Zan avoids a wild elbow strike from Belvedere.
Zan lands a hook to the body. It's hard to tell if that hurt Belvedere or not.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
An uppercut on the inside fails to land for Zan.
Belvedere pushes off an throws an elbow but Zan leans to the side and avoids it. We're back to clinching against the cage.

Belvedere misses the knee to the body. Nice hip positioning from Zan.

Zan tried to land a shot to the body but connects with Belvedere's elbow.
Belvedere wants to strike at distance but he can't break free of the clinch.
Zan goes for a body shot but it's blocked.
A body shot lands from Zan.
Belvedere is trying to drag Zan to the mat but Zan just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there.
Tan Zan has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Richmond Belvedere.
Zan lands a hook to the body. It's hard to tell if that hurt Belvedere or not.
Zan misses with a body punch.

Zan cracks Belvedere with a nice body shot.

A nice left hand lands by Zan.
Belvedere tries to throw a body punch but Zan avoids it by throwing Belvedere back against the cage.
Zan misses with a body punch.
Belvedere looking for a takedown.
A head punch blocked on the inside by Belvedere.
Zan tries a body shot but Belvedere blocks it.
Zan scores with a nice hook to the head.
Zan lands a hook that snaps the head of Belvedere backwards.
Belvedere blocks a couple of punches on the inside.
Belvedere wants to break the clinch but can't.
Zan scores with a shoulder strike.

Belvedere lands a nice trip takedown into half guard.
Zan knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Belvedere on the ground.
Zan moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.
Zan controls Belvedere momentarily but Belvedere frees himself.
Zan pulls Belvedere in close to prevent any damage.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Zan's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Belvedere slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.
Zan has control of Belvedere's left arm, preventing Belvedere from doing any damage.
Zan looking to hit a scissor sweep but Belvedere is one step ahead there.
Belvedere loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.
Zan pulls Belvedere in close to his closed guard and prevents Belvedere from doing any damage or advancing position.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Tan Zan dominated that round.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!

Jab, jab by Zan - just one landing.
Tan Zan seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Belvedere missing with a left hand there. Zan was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one.
Oooooooooooh, not good. A low kick from Belvedere lands where it shouldn't have, right in the... well, you know what he did? He kicked him in the penis. He's injured, injured bad. The referee sends both fighters to their corners and Zan has 5 minutes to recover. He's OK now though... a thumbs up from Zan and we're back underway with a touch of gloves.

Zan keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
Belvedere drops his hands momentarily and Zan takes advantage with a crisp shot to the head.
Belvedere shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Zan pinned against the cage. Zan gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Zan throwing a counter right hand but Belvedere manages to avoid it.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Nice defenses there by Belvedere.
Belvedere throws a looping overhand right but Zan ducks down to avoid it.
A looping hook to the body misses from Zan. Belvedere does a little dance to reset his feet.
Zan just misses with a punch to the body.
And an attempted straight right on the counter from Belvedere! But no joy.
Belvedere with poor footwork there. He got himself in a bit of a tangle, enabling Zan to score with a decent uppercut.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Zan tests Belvedere's chin there with a solid looking shot.
Belvedere shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Zan as he avoids it easily.
Belvedere is breathing heavily.
Zan cracks a nice hook into Belvedere's ribs.
Zan misses with a looping right.
Belvedere takes a jab right on the kisser.
Belvedere takes one on the button.

Belvedere is rocked!
Zan fakes and then throws a beautiful body shot. Belvedere looks a bit winded and takes a step backwards to take a breath.
Zan throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
A big left from Zan misses.
Zan throws a hook to the side of Belvedere's head but Belvedere sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.
Zan is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Belvedere can do to turn this around?
Zan throws a body punch but Belvedere moves out of range.
Tan Zan is winning the standup battle so far.

Zan lands a left and a right that send Belvedere crashing to the mat, dazed. Zan thinks about following him to the mat but decides to wave him back up to his feet!
Belvedere is still on wobbly legs! Can Zan finish him?
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Zan steps in with a hook that catches Belvedere right on the chin and knocks him to the floor! Zan follows him down with more strikes and that's all she wrote! Belvedere looks absolutely devastated.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:54 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Tan Zan!
During a confident post fight interview, Tan Zan thanked all his fans. He seemed very genuine when describing how motivated his fans keep him.
