PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Tapad Amiga (ranked 24785 p4p, 24583 weight class) and Rico Salvacion (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Buckle up people - heeeeeeeeeere we go!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 11 - 21 - 2, fighting out of Las Vegas, Tapad Amiga!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 11 - 23 - 3, fighting out of Las Vegas, Rico Salvacion!
The judges for this bout are Robert Twigg, Alan Glass and Stewart Dunkirk.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
We've got one fighter who appears to only be looking to counter and the other not looking particularly aggressive either, so we could be in for a dull fight.
Salvacion tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Amiga swivels and escapes.

Amiga manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Salvacion on his heels. He'll look to pass Salvacion's guard now, I'm sure.
Amiga is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.
Salvacion seems keen to control Amiga's posture.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Salvacion trying to keep a closed guard but Amiga is proving a slippery customer.
Amiga's corner is telling him to maintain position.

Salvacion doesn't do any damage with a couple of strikes from the bottom.
Amiga content to stall in guard here.
If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.

Amiga has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Amiga is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
Salvacion is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.

Salvacion is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Horrible takedown attempt by Amiga or perhaps it was just good defense by Salvacion, which made it look bad.
Both fighters are looking to counter, which isn't making for the most exciting fight in the world.
Salvacion has a takedown stuffed.
Amiga quickly followed up with a counter body kick but doesn't connect.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Tapad Amiga will probably get the nod.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!

Amiga misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
And Salvacion responds with a good body kick, but Amiga manages to step out the way in time.
Amiga tries for a takedown but Salvacion sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
Despite the aggression on Salvacion's face he doesn't fully commit to the counter.

Salvacion looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Amiga wants to get back to his feet.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Salvacion takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.
Amiga works his way to full guard. Good work.
Salvacion controlling from the top position.
Amiga wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now.
Amiga has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Salvacion is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
Salvacion has his takedown stuffed
and Amiga counters with a three punch combination, finished off with a leg kick. Nice work.

Amiga gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Amiga is adopting a defensive guard.
Salvacion content to stall in guard here.
Amiga wants to sweep here but Salvacion controlling him for the moment.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Salvacion trying to control the position from guard on top but Amiga is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Salvacion controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Amiga has his hands on Salvacion's head, controlling the position.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Rico Salvacion showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's time! Back to the action! This is the final round!

Salvacion throws a body shot but no joy.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Amiga is defended easily by Salvacion.
Salvacion steps in looking to counter with the mid kick but it doesn't connect.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Salvacion looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into side control! Oh, that's bad for Amiga!

That's one minute gone in the round.
Salvacion laying and praying for a moment but Amiga takes advantage and regains half guard.
Amiga won't allow Salvacion to pass to mount.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Amiga is trying to get back to full guard.
Salvacion stops Amiga from getting back to his feet.
Amiga is doing well to control the position and prevent Salvacion from advancing to side control.
Salvacion slows the pace down in half guard.
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Amiga goes for a spinning back kick but it misses.
Salvacion steps in looking to counter with the mid kick but it doesn't connect.
Salvacion blocks the body kick.
Salvacion is trying to counter with his kicks.
Salvacion fails with a takedown attempt.
Amiga tries to counter by clinching up but Salvacion breaks away and moves out of range.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Amiga drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.
Amiga moving around in side mount but really he's just happy to control for now.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Amiga wants to control but Salvacion is keeping him busy.

And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Tapad Amiga.
I think Amiga has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
