The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Gracie shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Thompson as he avoids it easily.
Thompson throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.

Gracie slips under a jab.
Derick Thompson seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Thompson throws a wild combination but nothing lands.

Gracie decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Gracie wants to take a breather but Thompson is having none of it.

Gracie is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.
Thompson won't allow Gracie to pass to mount.

Gracie is working for a guillotine from mount but Thompson frees his head quite easily.

The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.

Gracie stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Thompson swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Thompson wants to improve his position but instead Gracie has moved into half guard.

Gracie is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Thompson sees it coming and defends easily.
