The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Sullivan lands a jab-cross combination.

Sullivan forces Laya back against the ropes and clinches.

Laya drops back looking for a leg! Sullivan is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Sullivan manages to kick Laya off! Laya jumps back into Sullivan's guard.

Sullivan has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Laya can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Laya drops back looking for a leg! Sullivan is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Sullivan manages to kick Laya off! Laya jumps back into Sullivan's guard.
Laya wants to pass the guard but Sullivan is keeping the position.

Sullivan working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Laya doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Laya manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
Laya looks to clinch
and Sullivan counters with a straight punch to the midsection.

Sullivan bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
Laya is working to avoid the ground and pound but Sullivan connects with a decent elbow.
Laya gets one leg under and gets the fight to half guard.
The fighters are tangled up in the ropes here. We might need a restart if the fighters can't break free themselves.
Laya wants to control but Sullivan is keeping busy.

The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring.

Oh but Laya is tightening it up a little... Sullivan has to be careful here... He's got his foot tucked under now, this looks tight!
