Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Patrick O Malley (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Bob Downson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). O Malley comes to the cage accompanied by Shipping up to Boston. Bob Downson has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Patrick O Malley!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of London, Bob Downson!
The judges for this bout are Richard Clark, Andrew Berry and James Atkins.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
O Malley avoids the head kick by Downson.
Downson tests O Malley's chin there with a solid looking shot.
O Malley tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
O Malley tries to clinch up but Downson circles away and keeps his distance.
Downson cracks O Malley with a hook to the jaw. Both fighters smile at eachother and high-five before getting back down to business.
Patrick O Malley seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
O Malley takes a shot right to the bread basket.

Downson changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. O Malley looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.

Downson wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by O Malley, who protects the arm well.

Downson stands up and beckons O Malley to his feet.
Downson circles away from the clinch attempt.
Downson is looking to clinch but O Malley is avoiding it.
Downson fakes a head shot and lands one to the body.
O Malley is looking to clinch.
O Malley fails with a takedown attempt from distance.

Downson scores with a hook to the body. O Malley takes a step back and tries to catch his breath.

O Malley has closed the distance and engaged Downson in a clinch.

Downson's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Downson throws a wild combination but nothing lands.

O Malley moves into the clinch successfully.
A real battle for position is taking place between these two warriors.
O Malley looking to stall.

Downson gets a nice trip takedown into half guard.
Downson trying to control the action but O Malley is working from the bottom.
O Malley is looking for a sweep. Downson is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Downson content to sit in half guard and control for a moment.
O Malley is not content to let Downson control the position.

O Malley wants to get back to his feet.
O Malley is breathing heavily.
Downson wants to lay and pray for a moment but O Malley keeps working.
Downson prevents O Malley from improving his position.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Downson landing with strikes to the body and head, softening up his opponent.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Downson misses with a double jab.
Downson stuffs the takedown attempt from O Malley. O Malley gets slowly back to his feet.
O Malley fails with the takedown.

O Malley blocks the body kick.

Downson shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in full mount! That's better than Downson was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
Downson takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
Downson lands a big elbow.
Downson content just to control the position here.
O Malley takes a big shot to the head but keeps on trying to improve his position.
Downson postures up and cracks his opponent a couple of times before moving back into close ground control. O Malley looks a forlorn figure.
Downson has his opponent pinned against the cage, landing some nasty ground and pound that is really making a bit of a mess out of O Malley's face.
Downson has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

Downson breaks from O Malley's wrist control and lands an elbow.
O Malley regains half guard.
O Malley is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Downson looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Downson wants to take a breather but O Malley is having none of it.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Bob Downson dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Nice cross by Downson.
O Malley changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Downson tries to avoid it but O Malley manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Downson to the ground. Downson escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
O Malley slips a jab and a cross from Downson.
Downson throws a nice looking combination but O Malley bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.
Downson throws a right hand that O Malley ducks under and follows up with a left that O Malley also avoids with ease.
Patrick O Malley is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
A combination from O Malley does no damage.
O Malley shoots for a takedown but Downson saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
Downson misses with a double jab.
O Malley ducks right into an uppercut from Downson.
O Malley keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
O Malley takes one on the chin but seems OK.
O Malley closes this distance looking for a takedown but Downson circles away.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Patrick O Malley. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Horrible takedown by Downson or perhaps it was just good defense by O Malley which made him look bad.

Downson drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

O Malley controls Downson momentarily but Downson frees himself.
O Malley throwing some rather feeble looking strikes off his back.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
O Malley trying to hold on to Downson's head to control him but Downson postures up.
Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Downson in particular looking to stall.
O Malley is pressing down on Downson's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.
Downson pushing down on O Malley's thigh, trying to pass to half guard. He's managed it... Nice work.
Well, if Downson is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.
O Malley gets back to full guard.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Downson prevents O Malley from improving his position.
Downson looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks O Malley with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.
O Malley is staying active underneath Downson, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
O Malley holds on for dear life, maintaining half guard for now.
Downson slips a nice elbow through O Malley's hands, connecting with O Malley's forehead.
Downson content to sit in half guard and control for a moment.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Bob Downson showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's time! Back to the action! Ladies and gentlemen, this is the final round!


Downson throws a head kick that misses.
O Malley with a poor takedown
and Downson counters with a shot to the ribs. That looked like it hurt.
Downson checks the leg kick.
Downson throws a body punch but O Malley moves out of range.

Downson takes a swing at O Malley's ribcage but misses.
Downson jabs away that one connects to the head of his opponent.
Downson throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
O Malley stuffs the takedown attempt from Downson. Downson gets slowly back to his feet.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
O Malley changes levels and scores with a jab to the body.
O Malley avoids a punch combination nicely.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Downson swings and misses with a hook to the body.

Downson can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as O Malley controls the pace.
O Malley trying to control the position from guard on top but Downson is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Downson lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for O Malley!
O Malley tries to lock up and control but Downson gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.

O Malley bucks up and throws Downson to the side - he's got back to his feet. Great escape!

Downson bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
O Malley is trying to improve his position.

Downson decides to stand up, so the ref orders O Malley to his feet.
Downson misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.

O Malley rushes Downson and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.
O Malley works for underhooks and lands a body shot in the process.

Downson is trying to trip O Malley. He has hold of a leg but O Malley is hopping around, keeping his balance for the moment. Downson persists though and gets the takedown into guard.
Downson is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.
O Malley throws a couple of weedy looking strikes off his back.
O Malley is trying to hold Downson in close to prevent damage but Downson has managed to pass into half guard.
Downson wants to control but O Malley is keeping him busy.
Patrick O Malley has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
