Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Mirko Balboa (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Santian Sultan (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Mirko Balboa has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Mirko Balboa!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Santian Sultan!
The judges for this bout are Felipe Paraventi, Daniel Cesar and Paulo Santos.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Sultan tries to clinch but Balboa is having none of it.
Sultan fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Sultan tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Balboa swivels and escapes.
Balboa keeps the fight on the outside.
Sultan tries to clinch there but Balboa circles away.
Sultan wants to clinch.
Balboa throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Sultan tries to clinch but Balboa is having none of it.
Balboa lands with a kick to the temple. Sultan shrugs as if to say "is that all you've got?"

Balboa drives through with a takedown into guard.
Balboa has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Sultan is proving hard to escape from.
Sultan is trying to control the position but Balboa postures up.

Balboa trying to stand up but can't free himself from Sultan's guard.
Balboa stops Sultan from standing up.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Balboa is looking to stand up but Sultan won't let him.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Balboa's corner is telling him to maintain position.

Sultan is edging up against the cage. He's using the cage to get back to his feet. Nice work there - the fighters are clinched.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

Sultan's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Balboa swats away the attempt to clinch by Sultan.

Balboa gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here.

Balboa pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Sultan clinches but Balboa breaks the clinch
and Balboa counters with a kick to the head that grazes his opponent. Sultan is lucky that one didn't land flush.


It looks like Santian Sultan has been cut.

Balboa moves into the clinch.
Sultan keeps control of Balboa as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks.
Sultan tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.

Balboa's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Sultan tries to clinch but Balboa moves away
and Balboa counters with a big head kick but Sultan shrugs it off.
Sultan darts in trying to clinch

and Balboa counters with a takedown into side control.
Sultan is trying to stand back up. He's worked his way up against the cage but Balboa has just dragged him back down to the mat.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's time! Back to the action!


Balboa throws a quick head kick that skims the top of Sultan's head.

Balboa looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into mount! Oh, that's bad for Sultan!
Sultan is trying to stand but he's not in a good position to be doing that! Balboa has taken his back!
Sultan holding both Balboa 's hands and preventing any damage.

Sultan just trying to survive but Balboa is wriggling into a better position, looking to finish.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
I really don't envy Sultan right now.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Sultan covering up well under a barage of strikes.
Sultan trying to get back to his feet but Balboa is in full control for now.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin! So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.


Sultan closes the distance looking to clinch

so Balboa counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
Sultan wants to get back to his feet but Balboa is in a dominant position and won't allow it.

Sultan is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Balboa is controlling him.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Balboa wants to stand but Sultan is controlling his posture from full guard.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Sultan is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.
Santian Sultan has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Sultan working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Balboa doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Balboa manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Mirko Balboa.
Well Balboa has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
