PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Tapad Amiga (ranked 24710 p4p, 24499 weight class) and Rico Salvacion (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Rico Salvacion told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 11 - 19 - 1, fighting out of Las Vegas, Tapad Amiga!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 9 - 23 - 2, fighting out of Las Vegas, Rico Salvacion!
The judges for this bout are Frank Dennis, Robert Twigg and Tiny Johnson.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
We've got one fighter who appears to only be looking to counter and the other not looking particularly aggressive either, so we could be in for a dull fight.

Salvacion darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.
Amiga is controlling Salvacion's trapped leg to prevent Salvacion from advancing to side control.
Amiga tries to regain full guard. Instead though, Salvacion has advanced to mount. Uh oh.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Amiga tries to lock up and control but Salvacion gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Salvacion controlling from the full mount.
Amiga is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.
Salvacion controlling the pace for now.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Amiga tries to reverse the position but Salvacion maintains control.
Amiga tries to lock up and control but Salvacion gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.
Amiga working to try and regain half guard.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Amiga wants to hold on but Salvacion pushes him away.
Salvacion controlling from mount.
Salvacion's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Salvacion prevents Amiga from getting the reversal.
Amiga wants to hold on but Salvacion pushes him away.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Salvacion takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Amiga tries to hold on but Salvacion pushes him away.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Rico Salvacion dominated that round.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!

Amiga shoots in and drives through. Salvacion sprawls well.
Salvacion tries a quick counter leg kick but Amiga is wise to it.
Amiga misses with a takedown attempt - Salvacion sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.

Amiga scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Amiga is pausing for a moment. What's he doing? It looks like he's clearing his nose. Oh dude! He's shot a load of snot all down Salvacion's shoulder. That is not cool.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Amiga wants to lay and pray for a moment but Salvacion keeps working.
Salvacion wants to escape from the position here - easier said than done!
Amiga is pausing for a moment. What's he doing? It looks like he's clearing his nose. Oh dude! He's shot a load of snot all down Salvacion's shoulder. That is not cool.
Rico Salvacion has got the better of the ground game so far.
Salvacion is positioning himself to get back to half guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Salvacion wants to control but Amiga postures up.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up.
Amiga darts in looking for a takedown but Salvacion gets double underhooks and turns Amiga into the cage.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Tapad Amiga. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Salvacion is trying to drag Amiga to the mat but Amiga just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Amiga tries to score a body lock takedown but Salvacion shows good agility there to stay on his feet.
Amiga has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Salvacion avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.
Amiga is defending well against a takedown attempt.
Amiga prevents a takedown attempt there.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Amiga is trying to drag Salvacion to the mat but Salvacion just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there.
Amiga is looking for a takedown up against the cage. Salvacion gets underhooks though and prevents the takedown attempt.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Tapad Amiga dominated that second round.
That's time! Amiga's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. This is the final round!

Amiga misses with a takedown attempt - Salvacion sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
Salvacion follows through with a counter body kick but it doesn't land.
Amiga shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Salvacion as he jumps to the side.
Salvacion is definitely looking for the counter takedowns here.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Salvacion doesn't succeed with the takedown
and Amiga counters with a straight punch to the midsection.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Salvacion misses with a takedown
and Amiga counters with a body kick that stops Salvacion in his tracks momentarily.
Salvacion leaves Amiga with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Salvacion follows through with a counter body kick but it doesn't land.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Tapad Amiga. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Amiga tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Salvacion swivels and escapes.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Horrible takedown attempt by Amiga or perhaps it was just good defense by Salvacion, which made it look bad.
And Salvacion responds with a good body kick, but Amiga manages to step out the way in time.
Amiga displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Salvacion.
Salvacion moves out of range as Amiga throws a body kick.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Salvacion shoots in and drives through. Amiga sprawls well.
Amiga thinks about countering with a body kick.

Salvacion gets caught napping as Amiga dives in and scores a takedown. Salvacion manages to retain guard.
Amiga postures up.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.
Amiga controls from within his opponent's guard.
Salvacion working a defensive guard here.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Salvacion keeping moving, preventing Amiga from controlling successfully.
Salvacion not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Amiga wants to control from the top but Salvacion keeps moving.
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.

And that's the end of the fight!
Tapad Amiga showed his dominance in that final round.
I think Amiga has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
