The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Mongrel throws a jab when Zaire was well out of range.
Zaire waving his hands out in front of him, looking to distract Mongrel.
Zaire throws a body punch but Mongrel moves out of range.
Zaire throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
It seemed like Mongrel was going to counter with the hook but didn't fully commit to it.
A nice leg kick from Zaire, right into the meat of the thigh.
Zaire has been working on his boxing with his coaches at Cope's in the buildup to the fight.
Zaire lands with a thumping leg kick.
Zaire shapes like he's going to throw a leg kick but settles back down.
Mongrel tries to check a leg kick but that clearly hurt him.
Zaire works the jab nicely.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Mongrel takes a hook to the side of the head. I wonder if that's got his ears ringing.
Zaire ducks down and throws a hook to the body.

Zaire throws a poor cross that misses
and Mongrel counters with a one-two to the body.
Nice straight punches there by Zaire. You know Roy Jones Jr respects the hands of Zaire.

and Mongrel connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.

It looks like Abdullah Zaire has been cut.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Zaire stooping low to avoid any incoming strikes and then lunges in with an uppercut come cross that lands flush.

and Mongrel cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.

Zaire wings a very wild body shot but it does the job and lands to the midsection.
Zaire slips in close and lands a nice hook before moving back out of range.
Zaire is really peppering his opponent's head with punches.

Mongrel blocks a leg kick.
Mongrel throws out a counter right but Zaire avoids it with no problem.
Mongrel lands with a good body shot.
Zaire misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Mongrel.
Mongrel swings away with a counter right hand but no contact made.
Mongrel takes a shot to the eye socket. That's gotta hurt.
Zaire ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face.
Zaire tried to counter with a leg kick but Mongrel avoided it.

A low kick from Zaire is predictable there
and Zaire takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.
Zaire throws a good cross that connects.
Zaire throws a head kick but Mongrel moves out of range.

A jab from Zaire does it's job there.
Zaire fakes a head shot and lands one to the body.
Zaire jabs Mongrel right on the nose. Mongrel blinks but takes it well.
Mongrel misses with a body punch
and Zaire counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.
Zaire scores with a sloppy punch to the body. Not much technique there but it did the business.
Zaire misses with a telegraphed body shot
and Mongrel counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.
Abdullah Zaire seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Zaire ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Mongrel moves away.
Mongrel uses good head movement to avoid the hook from Zaire.
Zaire throws an ugly left hook that misses
and Mongrel counters with a lovely straight right hand!

Zaire rushes in with a sloppy looking punch
and Mongrel counters with a crisp right that sends Zaire to the canvas! Mongrel follows up with punches from the mount and this one is all over!
