PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Jayson Cadorna (ranked 6004 p4p, 5130 weight class) and Chris Taylor (ranked 274 p4p, 253 weight class). Chris Taylor will no doubt be looking to use his reach advantage to good effect.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Jayson Cadorna!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Chris Taylor!
The judges for this bout are Vladimir Khabensky, Aleksei Zolotukhin and Konstantin Menshow.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Taylor doesn't manage to clinch there - Cadorna circles away.
Taylor with a poor takedown
and Taylor takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.
Taylor throws a combination that misses
and Cadorna cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.
Cadorna shoots in but no luck this time.

Taylor fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Cadorna to the ground. Taylor is now in Cadorna's guard.
Cadorna looking for a sweep. Not yet Cadorna, not yet.
Taylor trying to control but Cadorna is working from the bottom.
Taylor content to stall in guard here.
Cadorna has improved his flexibility recently so we will have to see if he can use that to his advantage.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Taylor decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.

Taylor doesn't succeed with the takedown

and Cadorna counters by clinching up.
Cadorna wants to take the fight to the mat but Taylor manages to get underhooks and keep the fight in the clinch.
Taylor jumps guard but Cadorna turns him against the cage and keeps the fight standing.
Jayson Cadorna has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Chris Taylor.
Taylor tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.
Taylor goes for a takedown attempt but Cadorna pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.

Taylor gets tackled into the cage by Cadorna. Cadorna maintains the clinch.
Cadorna is looking for a takedown up against the cage. Taylor gets underhooks though and prevents the takedown attempt.
Taylor is trying to pull guard but being pressed up against the cage enables Cadorna to keep the fight standing.

Taylor jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Cadorna walks away with a smile on his face. Taylor gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.

Cadorna rushes Taylor and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.

Taylor decides to pull guard.
Taylor looking to control the pace of the fight rather than finish it.

Taylor working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Cadorna doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Cadorna manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
Taylor seems keen to control Cadorna's posture.
Taylor is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Cadorna is looking to improve his position.
Taylor controlling the pace.
Taylor winds up and cracks Cadorna with a swinging punch to the side of the head.

Taylor decides he's had enough of the ground and stands up.
Chris Taylor seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Cadorna scores with a hook to the body. Taylor takes a step back and tries to catch his breath.
Cadorna is breathing heavily.
Taylor fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.

Taylor closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
Cadorna is letting Taylor control him for a moment.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Taylor postures up a little and throws a couple of hammerfists but they don't connect properly.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Taylor happy to just control the position for now.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Cadorna tries to improve position but can't.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Chris Taylor will probably get the nod.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!

Cadorna swats away the attempt to clinch by Taylor.

Cadorna moves into range and clinches up with Taylor.

Cadorna breaks the clinch.

Taylor feints and as Cadorna raises his hands in defense, Taylor changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
Taylor stands and throws Cadorna's legs to the side, diving into side control.

Taylor thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Cadorna seems a little lost for a moment, as Taylor dominates the positioning.
Taylor advances to full mount.
BOOM! Taylor connects with a massive shot to the dome!
Cadorna is wriggling around here but as he tries to escape, Taylor has taken his back.

Taylor is working for the choke. He's slipped one arm under the chin. Cadorna has to defend the other arm for all he's worth... but Taylor has managed to get that arm free too and he's tightening the choke! Cadorna taps out and looks absolutely disgusted with himself. Taylor doesn't care though - he's delighted!
