PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Turpaan Vetaja (ranked 3962 p4p, 3961 weight class) and Tito Vicenzo (ranked 0 p4p, 469 weight class). Vicenzo has chosen ZOKINGDOG as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Turpaan Vetaja!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Tito Vicenzo!
The judges for this bout are Yasuomi Hirokawa, Yukihiro Yamamoto and Tatsuya Matsuyama.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Vicenzo closes the distance and clinches up with Vetaja, looking for a takedown. Vicenzo pushes Vetaja against the cage but Vetaja circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Vicenzo avoids a lazy jab quite easily.
Vicenzo tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.

Vetaja shoots in and gets a takedown into Vicenzo's guard.
Vicenzo is looking to stand back up... there's a bit of a scramble and Vetaja dives into side control.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.

Vicenzo is trying to get back to his feet.

Vetaja decides to take the fight back to the feet.

Vetaja throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Vicenzo was covering up waiting for the punch and Vetaja finishes the takedown easily into guard.

Vetaja is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.
Vetaja postures up in Vicenzo's guard and throws a big left but Vicenzo blocks it.
Vicenzo can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Vetaja controls the pace.
Vetaja has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Vicenzo is wriggling around but Vetaja manages to pass to half guard.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.

The referee calls for the fighters to work.

Vetaja stands up and beckons Vicenzo to join him on the feet.

Vetaja drives through and clinches with Vicenzo against the cage.

Vicenzo tries to work over Vetaja's body with a swooping hook but it only glances the target.

Vetaja pulls guard effortlessly.
Vicenzo won't allow Vetaja to sweep him here.
Vetaja throws a couple of weedy looking strikes off his back.
A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Vetaja holds on and takes a little breather.
Vicenzo throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Vetaja works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Vetaja is on top in guard.

Vetaja drops back looking for a leg! Vicenzo is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Vicenzo manages to kick Vetaja off! Vetaja jumps back into Vicenzo's guard.
Vetaja seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Vicenzo moves into range and lands a nice leg kick.
Vicenzo throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Vicenzo tries to clinch but Vetaja moves out of range.

Vetaja is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Vicenzo can do to turn this around?

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Vetaja manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Vicenzo manages to get himself to full guard.

Vetaja is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Vicenzo wants to stand but Vetaja is controlling the position.
Vetaja works a leg free and moves into half guard.
Vicenzo wants to get back to his feet.
The referee calls for the fighters to work.
Vetaja has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.
Vicenzo really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Vetaja. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Vetaja is looking to pass the guard... He's managed it - he's now in full mount!

Vetaja seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Vicenzo for as long as he can get away with.

Vicenzo is in a horrible position here. Vetaja smacks him with another shot as he tries to escape the position.

Vetaja stands up from the dominant position, so we're back on the feet.
Vicenzo moves in looking to clinch but Vetaja pushes him off.

Vicenzo tries to sprawl but Vetaja drives through with a takedown into half guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Vetaja works his foot free and advances to mount.
Vetaja cracks Vicenzo with a nasty head shot there - the crowd let out an audible gasp there, as the noise reverberated around the arena.

Vetaja is giving the impression that he's looking to ground and pound but he switches suddenly into a beautiful far side armbar! Vicenzo is forced to tap! Great finish!
