PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Colin Nox (ranked 5397 p4p, 5760 weight class) and Jon Alexander (ranked 521 p4p, 544 weight class). Alexander has chosen "Land of Confusion" by Disturbed as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Colin Nox!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Jon Alexander!
The judges for this bout are Josh West, Jeff Smith and Colin Fray.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Nox is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Alexander's half guard.
Nox lands with an elbow from half guard - that looked like it hurt.
Nox is taking a breather. Alexander says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Nox wants to advance to full mount but Alexander doesn't think that's going to happen and regains full guard instead.

Nox works over Alexander with some ground and pound from guard.
Nox wants to pass the guard but Alexander is keeping the position.
Nox engaging in some classic timewasting tactics.
Nox seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Alexander for as long as he can get away with.
Nox slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Alexander trying to remain calm as Nox controls from the top position.
Alexander takes a couple of big shots there - the referee warns him that he has to defend himself better.

Alexander takes a big shot right to the temple there but he's taken it well.
The referee tells the fighters to keep busy.

Nox is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Alexander has escaped the position, nice work there.
Alexander prevents Nox from moving into mount.
Alexander on the wrong end of some ground and pound.
Nox knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Alexander on the ground.
Nox controlling the position.

Nox slows the pace down.

Nox is chipping away with strikes.
The referee tells the fighters to keep busy.
Nox has knee on belly and now moves to full mount! Trouble for Alexander!
Alexander takes a big shot to the head but keeps on trying to improve his position.

Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Nox cracks Alexander with a nasty head shot there - the crowd let out an audible gasp there, as the noise reverberated around the arena.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.

Alexander closes the distance and pushes Nox back into the cage.
Nox has had enough of the clinch but Alexander keeps him there for the moment.

A right handed body shot lands from Alexander.
Nox tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.
Nox tried to land a shot to the body but connects with Alexander's elbow.
Alexander lands an elbow that stopped Nox in his tracks for a moment.
Alexander using the Thai plumb to throw knees but Nox has his back arched nicely, preventing the strike.
Nox keeps the fight in the clinch, despite Alexander's efforts to push away.
Nox tries for a takedown. No joy.

Alexander lands a left hand.
A shot in the inside from Alexander.
Alexander keeps control of Nox as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks.
Alexander gets underhooks to prevent Nox's takedown attempt.

Nox has dropped down and is looking to force the takedown but it's defended by Alexander after a bit of a struggle.

Alexander tries to break free but Nox pushes him back against the cage.
The fighters are pressed against the cage, as the pace of the fight slows.
Alexander connects with a knee to the head.

It looks like Colin Nox has been cut.
Alexander lands an elbow just above Nox 's eye.
Alexander comes over the top with an elbow. That landed flush.
Alexander has had enough of the clinch and is looking to separate.
Nox is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Alexander pulls him back up using the underhooks.
Nox drops down looking for an ankle pick but Alexander pulls his leg out and moves away.

Nox shoots in and gets a takedown into Alexander's guard.
Nox stops Alexander from standing up.
Nox trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
Alexander can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Nox controls the pace.

Nox won't allow Alexander to get back to his feet.
Nox is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.

Colin Nox overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Nox is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Alexander can do to turn this around?
Nox continues to stall.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up.

Alexander fails with an attempt to clinch.

Alexander gets caught flat footed, as Nox shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.
Nox is stalling in the full guard.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Nox postures up and lands some nice ground and pound.
Nox seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.
Nox passes easily into side control. Nice work.
Alexander being controlled for a moment.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Nox looks up at the clock and then as Alexander takes his cue and looks up at the clock too, Nox smacks him right in the chops with a big elbow! How rude!
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Jon Alexander showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. Let's hear some noise people - this is the final round!

Nox tries to pull guard but Alexander won't allow it.
Alexander creates a bit of space for himself and sneaks an elbow through Nox's defenses.

Alexander tries to land a shot to the body but it's blocked.
Nox tries to pull guard but Alexander forces him back to his feet, against the cage.
Both guys are working to get underhooks.
Nox is working for takedown but Alexander is calmly controlling the position for now.

Alexander unloads a knee to the mid-section. Nox lets out a prehistoric sounding urrrrgh.

Alexander breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.

Nox closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Alexander's guard.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Alexander wants to get back to his feet but Nox is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
Alexander is using up a lot of energy trying to get back to his feet. Perhaps he should improve his position first.
Alexander is trying to control the position from the bottom.

Nox prevents Alexander from getting back to his feet.
Nox preventing the sweep.
Nox engaging in some classic timewasting tactics.
We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.

Nox throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Alexander was covering up waiting for the punch and Nox finishes the takedown easily into guard.
Alexander is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Nox wants to improve his position but Alexander is controlling well.
Nox works his way to full guard. Good work.
Nox pulls Alexander in to control the position.

Alexander avoids a guillotine attempt easily.

Nox striking off his back but it's not causing Alexander any problems.
Alexander won't allow Nox to sweep him here.
Nox wants to stand but Alexander is controlling the position.
Alexander is fighting to break Nox's control of his arms but Nox is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment.

And that's the end of the fight!

I think Alexander has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
