PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Rich Mahogany (ranked 2552 p4p, 3358 weight class) and Jay Porter (ranked 322 p4p, 386 weight class). Mahogany comes to the cage accompanied by Litty. Jay Porter told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 12 - 17 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Rich Mahogany!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 7 - 11 - 0, fighting out of New York, Jay Porter!
The judges for this bout are William Gold, Andrew Berry and Phil Schofield.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Porter shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Mahogany but Mahogany pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Porter is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Mahogany.
Mahogany defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Porter.
Mahogany throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Porter sees it coming and avoids it easily.
Rich Mahogany seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
A looping hook to the body misses from Porter. Mahogany does a little dance to reset his feet.
Mahogany ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Porter moves away.
Porter slips a jab from Mahogany.
Mahogany fails with a takedown attempt.
Mahogany has his head slapped from side to side by a 3 punch combination. That must have hurt him.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Mahogany misses with a wild combination.
Porter walks into a left hand.

Porter gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Mahogany to score an easy takedown into full guard.
Mahogany wants to pass the guard but Porter is keeping the position.
Mahogany postures up in Porter's guard and throws a big left but Porter blocks it.
Porter looking for a sweep. Not yet Porter, not yet.

Mahogany cracks Porter with a solid left hand.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Porter utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
Porter is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Mahogany missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.
Mahogany has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Mahogany wants to control from the top but Porter keeps moving.
Mahogany looking to sit in guard and control but Porter gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

Porter sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Mahogany's guard.

Porter decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Mahogany, up you get!
Mahogany tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Porter swivels and escapes.

Mahogany changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Porter looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.

Porter throws his opponent off and manages to get back to his feet! Nicely done!

Nice takedown defense from Mahogany. No joy for Porter on that attempt.
Rich Mahogany has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Jay Porter.

Porter is clearly trying to counter these attacks from Mahogany with a body shot.

Mahogany shakes his hands off, looking to compose himself, but takes a jab to the jaw whilst he does it.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Mahogany throws a nice looking combination but Porter bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.

Mahogany is trying hard to land a takedown here. Porter sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.
Porter let fly with a counter punch to the body but it didn't land.
Porter scores with a jab to the jaw.
Mahogany shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Porter fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Mahogany moves into range and lands a nice leg kick.
Porter uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Mahogany.
Mahogany moves forwards but Porter connects with a nice, crisp jab.

Mahogany throws a leg kick but Porter sees it coming and checks it nicely.
Porter takes a step towards his opponent and connects with a left hand, before circling away.

Porter scores with a sloppy right hand. Mahogany should have avoided that one.

Mahogany manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Porter on his heels. He'll look to pass Porter's guard now, I'm sure.

Porter has his feet on Mahogany's hips. He pushes off and gets to his feet. Nice work.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Jay Porter will probably get the nod.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare each other down, ready to get back to the action.

Mahogany slips a jab and a cross from Porter.
Jay Porter is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Mahogany on the wrong end of an overhand right that came out of nowhere.
Mahogany lands a nice shot to the body.
Mahogany loads up on a big right hand but Porter slips the punch.

Mahogany walks straight into an uppercut. Luckily it didn't land flush.
Mahogany has his head snapped back a nice jab. A little nod from Mahogany there as he acknowledges the shot.

The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Donk. Porter catches Mahogany right on the button with a cross.

Mahogany takes a shot to the nose. Hopefully that hasn't broken it.
Porter avoids a punch combination nicely.
Mahogany drops his hands momentarily and Porter takes advantage with a crisp shot to the head.

Mahogany shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Porter as he avoids it easily.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Porter is moving around nicely and scores here with a single head shot.

Mahogany drops back looking for a leg! Porter is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Porter manages to kick Mahogany off! Mahogany jumps back into Porter's guard.
Mahogany is pushing down on Porter's leg trying to pass to half guard. Porter is fighting to maintain full guard but Mahogany has managed to sneak the leg through.
Mahogany is trying to control. Porter wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.
Mahogany slips a nice elbow through Porter's hands, connecting with Porter's forehead.
Mahogany is stalling here. Porter is in no mood to hang around though. He's locked up a kimura from the bottom! Mahogany seems to be keeping calm but he's forced to roll out of the hold and Porter has ended up in side control on the top. Nice work.

Porter stands up and beckons Mahogany to his feet.
Porter comes forward and lands a shot to the body, then darts back out of range.
Porter throws the left hand but Mahogany avoids the punch easily.
Porter tries to score a power double leg takedown but Mahogany sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Porter somewhat.

Jay Porter showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.

Mahogany shoots in looking for a takedown. Porter tries to sprawl out of it but Mahogany keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Porter manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.

Porter has been the more effective fighter overall so far.

Porter lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Mahogany circles away quickly and effectively.
Porter wings a very wild body shot but it does the job and lands to the midsection.

Boom, another hit is landed. "You're gunna get knocked out" taunts Porter, as that shot connected.
Porter stooping low to avoid any incoming strikes and then lunges in with an uppercut come cross that lands flush.

Porter has been working his punching technique in the buildup to the fight and it appears to be paying off.

Jay Porter comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Porter has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.

Jay Porter spent the whole post fight interview bigging himself up. It didn't go down that well with the fans after a while as they thought it was a bit arrogant.
In defeat, Rich Mahogany stepped up to the mic, saying 'Congratulations Pice O'Xit. You were a hell of an opponent. I will go home and take solace in my many leatherbound volumes.'.
