PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Jim Babcock (ranked 1046 p4p, 1621 weight class) and Toe Jam (ranked 148 p4p, 224 weight class). Babcock comes to the cage accompanied by San Francisco Live Medley. Toe Jam is the more experienced fighter, so let's see if that makes a difference tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Jim Babcock!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 7 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Toe Jam!
The judges for this bout are Paul Tew, James Atkins and Daniel Bishop.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Babcock ducks under a wild hook from Jam.

We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.

and Babcock counters with a takedown into side control.
Babcock creates some space and throws a big elbow, but Jam sees it coming and moves his head just enough to avoid the strike.
Jam avoids any damage from the ground and pound of Babcock.
The strikes coming from Babcock are missing the target in this wave of attacks.

Jam tries to improve position but can't.
Babcock trying to control the position but Jam is working away.
Jam parries the strikes from Babcock easily there. Babcock is wary of posturing up too much because it might enable Jam to escape.

Jam regains half guard, as Babcock was trying to land strikes.
Jam won't allow Babcock to pass to mount.

Babcock has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Babcock uses his free foot to push down on Jam's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Jam.

Babcock throws an overhand right that lands on Jam's shoulder, as Jam tries to avoid the shot.
A nice side step and Jam releases a counter shot to the body, but it doesn't find it's home.
Jam pushing out the jab but it's not landing.
Babcock takes a big uppercut there. He seems a bit wobbly but no, he's OK.

Babcock throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Jam tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Babcock is in Jam's guard.

Babcock has gone for a leg lock! Jam slips out almost immediately though and dives into Babcock's guard.

Jam wants to stand but Babcock is controlling his posture from full guard.

Babcock looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
Jam would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.

Babcock looking to hit a scissor sweep but Jam is one step ahead there.

Babcock is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Jam defends well.
Jam wants to get up but he can't break Babcock's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Babcock is trying to control the position but Jam postures up.
Jam wants to stand but Babcock is controlling his posture from full guard.
Jam wants to stand and escape but instead Babcock has hit a sweep and he's now on top in guard.

Jam is staying active underneath Babcock, who seems content to just control the action from this position.

Jam tries to bum rush Babcock with a series of wild strikes but Babcock uses good footwork to avoid the assault.

Jam might want to mix his strikes up a bit more. He's just going for head shots at the moment and that can become a bit predictable.

Babcock fakes with a right hand and throws a good leg kick, right into the thigh. That had to hurt Jam.

Babcock closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Jam quickly recovers to half guard.
