PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Jos Vermeulen (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Inderson Alva (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Alva has chosen Boogie boogie hedgehog as his entrance music. We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Alva avoids the body shot from Vermeulen.
The fight stays on the outside here - Vermeulen looks like he's thinking about clinching though.

Vermeulen shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Alva's guard.
Alva lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Vermeulen!
Vermeulen could do with loosing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.

Alva is in full mount, looking to secure a guillotine but Vermeulen is surviving well by controlling Alva's body position as best he can.
Vermeulen is in a horrible position here, under a barrage of strikes, he's managing to avoid any damage.
Vermeulen is trying to escape the mount.
Alva looking to ground and pound but Vermeulen is blocking nicely.

Vermeulen defends a decent attempt at a guillotine from Alva.
Vermeulen is looking to get to half guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Alva with the ground and pound from mount.

It looks like Jos Vermeulen has been cut.
Vermeulen is in all sorts of trouble here.
Alva wants to stand but Alva is holding on to him, trying to stop him posturing up.
Vermeulen sneaks a leg under to get to half guard.
Alva really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Vermeulen. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Vermeulen is looking to improve his position.

Alva escapes and gets back to his feet.
Vermeulen circles away from the clinch attempt.
Ouch! a nice leg kick from Alva, right into the meat.
Vermeulen shoots in and drives through. Alva sprawls well.
Alva throws a right and a left that both miss.
Alva fakes with a right hand and throws a good leg kick, right into the thigh. That had to hurt Vermeulen.
Vermeulen fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
Vermeulen is breathing heavily.
Vermeulen tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Alva lands a jab. Then a cross. Then finally a nice hook to the body. Good work there by Alva.
Vermeulen shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Alva but Alva pushes him off and we're back to square one.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Jos Vermeulen. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Vermeulen shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Alva as he avoids it easily.
Alva throws an overhand right from the outside, which connects and sends Vermeulen stumbling backwards into the cage! Vermeulen bounces back off the cage towards Alva, who cracks him with a two punch combination that drops him to his knees! Alva lands two more shots before the referee has chance to intervene - what a finish! Alva celebrates with his corner as the crowd cheer loudly.
