PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Better Dead (ranked 1408 p4p, 1452 weight class) and Johnny Bronco (ranked 197 p4p, 200 weight class). Bronco has chosen The Horses - Daryl Braithwaite as his entrance music. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 16 - 17 - 1, fighting out of Las Vegas, Better Dead!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 30 - 17 - 1, fighting out of New York, Johnny Bronco!
The judges for this bout are Steve Erwin, Summer Carpenter and Skip Squint.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Dead throws a hook but Bronco blocks it.
A jab lands there for Bronco.
Bronco on the wrong end of a nice hook.
Better Dead seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Dead shakes his hands off, looking to compose himself, but takes a jab to the jaw whilst he does it.

Bronco decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
Bronco throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.
Bronco thows a huge punch but Dead dodges it nicely.
Bronco scores with a couple of good hammerfists.

Bronco is looking for a kimura but Dead is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Bronco to get the leverage.
Bronco sitting in half guard, looking to land shots. Dead defending well though.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Dead is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Dead looks like he's trying to stand up.
Bronco wants to pass to mount but Dead is defending the position.

Dead is in a tricky position but he's been working on his transitions down at Rabid Dog , so we'll see if he gets out of it.
Bronco is trying to control the action in half guard but Dead is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Bronco keeping composed on the top, looking to control the action.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.
Dead throws a nice looking combination but Bronco bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.

Bronco closes the distance and clinches.
Bronco lands punches inside but they're not really causing much damage.
Dead really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

Bronco drags the fight down to the ground.

Bronco looking for a guillotine here but Dead defends easily.

Bronco is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Dead defends well.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Bronco is pulling down on Dead's head to control his posture.

Dead wants to stand but Bronco is controlling his posture from full guard.

Dead has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.

Bronco working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Dead doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Dead manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Dead is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Bronco tries to land a sweep but no joy.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Johnny Bronco dominated that round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.

Bronco steps to the side to avoid the strikes from Dead.
Dead misses with a lunging right hand
enabling Bronco to counter with a crisp jab.
Jab, jab by Bronco - just one landing.
Dead throws a predictable looking body shot
letting Bronco counter with a right hand.
Dead takes a shot to the body in his stride.
Bronco lunges at Dead with a hook that half lands and is half blocked by Dead's hand.
Dead tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Bronco was well out of range. Poor timing from Dead.

Dead gets tackled into the cage by Bronco. Bronco maintains the clinch.
Bronco tries to pull guard but Dead holds him up against the cage and eventually Bronco drops back down to his feet.
Bronco tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Dead smiles and moves away.
Dead lands a nice shot that snaps Bronco's head back.

Bronco is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Dead's half guard.

Dead makes some distance and scrambles quickly back to his feet. Nice work!

That's one minute gone in the round.
Dead throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Bronco sees it coming and avoids it easily.
Bronco misses with a body shot.
Bronco has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Dead is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Bronco.

Bronco gets a clinch.
A short uppercut from Bronco.

Bronco manages to pull guard.
Dead wants to control from the top but Bronco keeps moving.
Dead pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Bronco is keeping the position for now.

Dead stands and steps away. Bronco gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.
Bronco missing with a left hand there. Dead was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one.
Dead fires out a quick counter leg kick but Bronco just manages to avoid it.

Bronco looking for a takedown here - he's got it.

Dead has managed to wall walk up one of the corner posts to get back to his feet. Bronco is pushing him up against the cage, looking to control the position.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Bronco tries a body shot but Dead blocks it.
Bronco lands on the inside with an uppercut.

Bronco manages to pull guard. Let's see whether he can land a sub off his back.
Bronco looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
Dead is looking to stand up but Bronco won't let him.
Bronco looking to control the pace of the fight rather than finish it.

Bronco escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Dead gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Bronco seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now.
Johnny Bronco has got the better of the ground game so far.
Bronco trying to keep a closed guard but Dead is proving a slippery customer.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Dead has a momentary lapse of concentration, allowing Bronco to throw up a leg and lock on what appears to be a pretty tight triangle! Dead is fighting it off but it's all too little too late - Bronco pulls down on the head and he's put Dead to sleep! This one is all over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:27 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Triangle). Johnny Bronco!
Our winner, Johnny Bronco, made sure he spent some time buttering up the crowd during his post fight interview, which will no doubt bring him a few more fans.
