PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Cody Evans (ranked 1423 p4p, 2234 weight class) and Ameri Can (ranked 141 p4p, 215 weight class). Can has chosen For Heavy Metal we will die! as his entrance music. Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 7 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Cody Evans!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 26 - 20 - 1, fighting out of Montreal, Ameri Can!
The judges for this bout are Tiny Johnson, George Francis and Chris Downing.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Can throws a solid leg kick but Evans takes the impact on his shin and smiles at Can.
Evans comes forward and lands a shot to the body, then darts back out of range.
Evans fakes low and throws an overhand right that catches Can on the side of the head.
Evans scores with a decent looking hook.
Evans connects with a looping right hand.
Evans bobbing and weaving, closes the distance and lands a hook to the side of Can's head.
We've been told by Evans's head coaches at Rabid Dog that he's been working on his takedown defense in preparation for this fight.
Can misses with a looping left.
Can throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
A little feinted left hand from Evans on the counter but he doesn't commit to it.
Can throws a lazy uppercut
and Evans connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.
Can misses with a head kick.
Can throws out a token jab with nothing on it.
Can throws a poor cross that misses
and Evans counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Evans walks straight into an uppercut. Luckily it didn't land flush.

and Evans counters with a big uppercut that knocks Can off his feet! Evans dives into side control looking to finish!

Evans just content to control the position.

Can seems a little lost for a moment, as Evans dominates the positioning.
Can tries to buck Evans off but Evans is having none of it.

Evans postures up a little and throws a couple of hammerfists but they don't connect properly.

Can ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Evans moves away.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Evans throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Can sees it coming and avoids it easily.

This has been an exciting period of action!
Can pushes Evans away and creates a bit of space to escape. He's almost out here... but no, Evans gets a good hold of his legs and remains firmly in side control.
The ground and pound from Evans seems to be hitting the mat more than his opponent.

Can is looking for a sweep.
Can is trying to control Evans's posture but Evans avoids it.
The referee tells the fighters to keep busy.
Evans connects with a decent looking elbow from side control that caused Can some visible discomfort.

Can takes a couple of big shots there - the referee warns him that he has to defend himself better.
Evans grinds an elbow into Can's temple.

Can is looking to reverse the position.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Can is still trying to improve position.
Evans moving around in side mount but really he's just happy to control for now.
Evans creates a bit of distance and throws down some hard shots.
Evans content to control the pace. The referee will try and keep them active though.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Evans has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.
Can struggling a bit here.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Can tries to buck Evans off but Evans is having none of it.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up.
Can looks to score with a jab to the body but Evans is just out of range.
Can misses with a low kick.
Evans dips down and scores with a jab to the body.
Evans scores with a nice strike.
Can throws out a token jab with nothing on it.

Can throws a right hand that misses
and Can takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.
Can is breathing heavily.
Evans bobs and weaves and unloads with a good uppercut.
Can misses with an uppercut
and Evans counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.

Oh, that's a big right hand from Evans and Can goes tumbling to the canvas! Evans follows him to the ground and looks to finish from half guard.
Evans slips a nice elbow through Can's hands, connecting with Can's forehead.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. Let's hear some noise people - this is the final round!

Can throws an off balance right hand
and Evans counters with a beautiful right hand that knocks Can out cold! What a finish! Evans is going crazy, running around the mat, summersaulting off the corner posts and screaming into the cameras. Something tells me he's pretty happy!
