PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Dick Pawlik (ranked 272 p4p, 252 weight class) and Jay Simon (ranked 43 p4p, 39 weight class). Chooooooooon! I think Pawlik might be my favorite fighter, now he's come out to John Butler - Ocean . Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 29 - 16 - 1, fighting out of Sydney, Dick Pawlik!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 31 - 12 - 2, fighting out of Amsterdam, Jay Simon!
The judges for this bout are Sosuke Kotani, Yukihiro Yamamoto and Yasuomi Hirokawa.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Simon loads up on a big right hand but Pawlik slips the punch.

Simon misses the shot to the body.
Jay Simon seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Simon throws an overhand right that lands on Pawlik's shoulder, as Pawlik tries to avoid the shot.
Pawlik changes levels looking for a counter takedown but doesn't commit.

Pawlik attempts a counter takedown but Simon avoids it well and moves away.
Simon goes for a double leg but Pawlik avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Pawlik continues to drive forward.

Simon shoots in for a double leg but Pawlik sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Simon won't allow Pawlik to pass to mount.
Pawlik wants to control but Simon is keeping him busy.

Pawlik looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.

Pawlik is working for a submission of some sort.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Pawlik is trying to control. Simon wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.

Simon makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Simon.
Pawlik landing with the ground and pound.

Simon working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Pawlik doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Pawlik manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Simon got a little sloppy there for a moment and Pawlik has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Simon has managed to get both his arms back between Pawlik's legs - danger averted.

Pawlik fakes and then throws a beautiful body shot. Simon looks a bit winded and takes a step backwards to take a breath.

That's time! Back to the action! The crowd applaud as we get ready to start the final round!

Simon ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Pawlik moves away.

Simon ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face.

Simon drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Simon jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

Simon slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.

Pawlik escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Simon gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Simon looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.

Jay Simon comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Simon has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
