Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Darrell Newsome (ranked 1120 p4p, 1799 weight class) and Jim Babcock (ranked 148 p4p, 238 weight class). The crowd seem to be enjoying Babcock's choice of entrance music: San Francisco Live Medley. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 9 - 2 - 0, fighting out of New York, Darrell Newsome!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Jim Babcock!
The judges for this bout are Don Winkell, Frank Antenori and Jack Bonds.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Newsome throws out a loose jab but Babcock uses good head movement to avoid it.
Babcock has his head snapped back a nice jab. A little nod from Babcock there as he acknowledges the shot.
Good exchange - Babcock coming out on top.
Newsome looks to have improved his striking defense since last time we saw him fight.
Babcock throws a lazy right hand but Newsome sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily.
Newsome throws a big shot that misses.
Babcock shoots in but no luck this time.
Babcock moves away from the strike by Newsome.
A right-left combo lands from Newsome.

It looks like Jim Babcock has been cut.
Babcock swings for the body but Newsome moves out of range.
Babcock misses with an attempted mid kick.
Newsome swung with a counter right hand that didn't connect.

Babcock has managed to clinch.
Babcock tries to circle away but Newsome has him pinned against the cage.

Newsome tries to throw a body punch but Babcock avoids it by throwing Newsome back against the cage.

Babcock is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Newsome stays in close to Babcock's body and controls the position.

Babcock working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Newsome doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Newsome manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Babcock has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Newsome can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
Babcock bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Newsome's guard.

Newsome knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Babcock on the ground.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.

Newsome wants to stand and escape but Babcock is having none of it.

Babcock has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

That's time! Newsome's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.

Babcock dances in quickly and lands a nice inside leg kick on Newsome. That did some damage!

Babcock clinches up with Newsome and pushes him back against the cage.
Babcock tries to throw a body punch but Newsome avoids it by throwing Babcock back against the cage.
Babcock has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
A battle for position here, against the cage.
Newsome lands a hook that snaps the head of Babcock backwards.
Babcock can't find room to land a body shot as Newsome controls the action.
Both guys are working to get underhooks.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
A nice right hand lands inside from Newsome.
Newsome scores with an uppercut up the middle.

Babcock breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Babcock keeping his hands up high there, blocking the jab from Newsome.

and Newsome counters with a right hand to the body.
Babcock shoots in but doesn't get the takedown
and Newsome counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.
Good exchange - Babcock coming out on top.

Babcock drives through and clinches with Newsome against the cage.
Babcock blocks a punch to the side of the head.
A short right from Newsome on the inside.
Babcock is working for takedown but Newsome is calmly controlling the position for now.
Newsome throws a head punch that misses.

Newsome is fighting off a takedown attempt but Babcock is just too persistent for him and manages to trip Newsome to the mat. Newsome regains guard as soon as the fighters hit the mat.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Babcock has gone for a leg lock! Newsome slips out almost immediately though and dives into Babcock's guard.

Babcock looking to hit a scissor sweep but Newsome is one step ahead there.

Babcock is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Newsome defends well.

Babcock working for submissions but it's allowed Newsome to get to half guard.
Babcock makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Babcock.
Babcock tries to land a sweep but no joy.

Newsome has a momentary lapse of concentration, allowing Babcock to throw up a leg and lock on what appears to be a pretty tight triangle! Newsome is fighting it off but it's all too little too late - Babcock pulls down on the head and he's put Newsome to sleep! This one is all over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:56 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Triangle). Jim Babcock!
After winning the bout, Jim Babcock thanked all his fans and promised he'd do even better in his next fight. The crowd seemed to love his humility.
