Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Nick Rodriguez (ranked 3462 p4p, 2751 weight class) and Tom Tomson (ranked 102 p4p, 76 weight class). Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 13 - 14 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Nick Rodriguez!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 7 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Tom Tomson!
The judges for this bout are Yuuki Gou, Shigeki Fujiwara and Ren Mimura.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
We've got one fighter who appears to only be looking to counter and the other not looking particularly aggressive either, so we could be in for a dull fight.
Tomson throws a lazy uppercut

and Rodriguez counters with a nice double leg into half guard.

Rodriguez looks to land a strike but Tomson avoids it nicely and regains full guard.
Rodriguez stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Tomson swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Tomson escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Rodriguez misses with a hook
and Tomson counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.
Tomson misses with an uppercut. Rodriguez saw that one coming.

Tomson throws a hook but Rodriguez blocks it.
Tomson feints a straight left to the body, then turns around with a flashy move and hits Rodriguezs jaw with a dramatic spinning back fist!

It looks like Nick Rodriguez has been cut.
Rodriguez shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Tomson tries to land a body kick

so Rodriguez counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Rodriguez prevents Tomson from getting back to his feet.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Rodriguez is looking to advance position but Tomson has hit a scissor sweep - now he's on top in mount!

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Poor strikes thrown by Rodriguez there. More accuracy and less frantic strikes would help!

Rodriguez tries to throw a body punch but Tomson avoids it by throwing Rodriguez back against the cage.

Rodriguez tried to land a shot to the body but connects with Tomson's elbow.

Tomson pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Tomson might want to mix his strikes up a bit more. He's just going for head shots at the moment and that can become a bit predictable.
Rodriguez is pinned up against the cage taking some big shots here. The referee is looking closely deciding whether he should stop the fight.
Rodriguez looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Tomson is fending him off so far but Rodriguez persists. Nope, Tomson circles away and we're back to standing.
