Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Aleks Nik (ranked 608 p4p, 699 weight class) and Armad Bates (ranked 87 p4p, 97 weight class). Aleks Nik could well score a knockout today. He has the power to get to Armad Bates's chin.

The judges for this bout are Bruno Hogan, Winston Howard and Topper Green.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Armad Bates seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Horrible takedown attempt by Bates or perhaps it was just good defense by Nik, which made it look bad.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

That was a close round but I would say that Aleks Nik will probably get the nod.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare each other down, ready to get back to the action.
Bates on the wrong end of a decent looking cross there.
Bates shoots in and bounces Nik off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.
Bates drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Nik manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Bates has Nik in his guard.
Bates has momentary wrist control but Nik slips an elbow through the middle.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Bates had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Nik defends it easily.
Nik got a little sloppy there for a moment and Bates has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Nik has managed to get both his arms back between Bates's legs - danger averted.

Our spies down at at Team Grunt inform us that Bates has really been working on his submissions in the buildup to this fight. Will it pay off?
Bates has his foot on Nik's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Nik works his way back into a safe position though.

Bates is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

I think Nik has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
