PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Jon Rambo (ranked 2792 p4p, 3062 weight class) and Joey Chandler (ranked 342 p4p, 360 weight class). Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 14 - 28 - 0, fighting out of London, Jon Rambo!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 7 - 10 - 1, fighting out of Los Angeles, Joey Chandler!
The judges for this bout are Robert Douchet, Dillan Fox and Yves DeLean.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Rambo takes a shot to the nose. Hopefully that hasn't broken it.
Boom, another hit is landed. "You're gunna get knocked out" taunts Chandler, as that shot connected.
Chandler dips to his left and cracks Rambo with an uppercut!
Rambo is pinned up against the cage taking some big shots here. The referee is looking closely deciding whether he should stop the fight.
Rambo pivots, looking for a leg kick but Chandler is out of range and Rambo settles back down.
Chandler doesn't fully commit to the body shot counter.
Chandler swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Rambo tries to grapple but his opponent circles
and Chandler cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.
Chandler checks the leg kick nicely there.
Jon Rambo seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

and Chandler counters with a lovely straight right hand!

Horrible takedown attempt by Rambo or perhaps it was just good defense by Chandler, which made it look bad.

Some bone on bone action there as Chandler checks a low kick. Luckily it wasn't a particularly hard one.
A jab from Chandler does it's job there.
Rambo shoots in for a takedown but Chandler shows good takedown defense.
Rambo shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Chandler pinned against the cage. Chandler gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Jon Rambo. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Chandler uses good footwork to get in and out and land a nice right hand before Rambo has time to react.

Chandler bobs and weaves and unloads with a good uppercut.

and Rambo takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.

Rambo takes a solid shot to the body. That one hurt him but he's trying not to show it.

Rambo takes a punch right to his stomach. That took the wind out of him momentarily.

A punch combination from Chandler misses.
Rambo tries to score a power double leg takedown but Chandler sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Rambo somewhat.
Chandler connects with a looping right hand.
Chandler scores with a sloppy punch to the body. Not much technique there but it did the business.
Chandler thuds his right hand into Rambo's forehead from close range. That could be painful for both fighters.
A jab from Chandler finds it's way through Rambo's defenses.
Chandler stuffs the takedown attempt from Rambo. Rambo gets slowly back to his feet.
Rambo walks into a stiff left hand from Chandler.

The fighters circle momentarily. Chandler darts into range and connects with a nice straight punch.
Chandler moves into range and connects with a jab.
Nice takedown defense from Chandler. No joy for Rambo on that attempt.

Rambo shoots in and bounces Chandler off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Chandler is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Chandler lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears.
Chandler slips a nice elbow through Rambo's hands, connecting with Rambo's forehead.
Chandler throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.
Chandler working over Rambo with some ground and pound. Rambo looks like he wants out of this position, which is understandable.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Joey Chandler dominated that round.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.

Chandler uses good footwork to get in and out and land a nice right hand before Rambo has time to react.

Rambo gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily
and Chandler connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.
Rambo tries to land a leg kick but Chandler saw it coming and moves away.
Chandler has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Rambo takes one on the chin but seems OK.
Rambo looks like he's developed a pretty tasty lump over his left eye. He'll need to avoid taking much more damage to that.

Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Chandler lands a nice shot that snaps Rambo's head back.

Rambo darts in looking for a takedown but Chandler gets double underhooks and turns Rambo into the cage.

Rambo tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Chandler paws at him with a jab and circles away.

and Chandler counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Rambo looked to counter that last move with a leg kick but didn't pull the trigger.
Chandler throws a jab to the body, straight down the pipe. Boom. That sent Rambo stumbling backwards but he manages to regain his composure quickly.

Rambo gets his head snapped back by a nice shot there.
Chandler has been working his punching technique in the buildup to the fight and it appears to be paying off.

Chandler lets the fists fly and connects with a left straight followed by a right hook.

Joey Chandler showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare each other down, ready to get back to the action. This is the final round!

Well, if Chandler is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.

Chandler tries to pass the half guard into mount. Rambo knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.

Jon Rambo has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Chandler throws an elbow that misses. Rambo uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Chandler's guard. Nice move by Rambo!

Chandler is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Rambo escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Chandler gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Hammerfist, elbow! yells Chandler's corner. There ya go! There ya go!
Chandler postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.

And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Jon Rambo.
I think Chandler has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
