PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between David Choke (ranked 60 p4p, 65 weight class) and Baldur Torsten (ranked 10 p4p, 13 weight class). Torsten has chosen Temple of Odin as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. Baldur Torsten will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the light heavyweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 19 - 10 - 1, fighting out of London, David Choke!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 26 - 12 - 0, fighting out of London, Baldur Torsten!
The judges for this bout are Ben Watson, John Mangel and Winston Howard.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Choke dives in and grabs Torsten's left leg, looking for a takedown. Torsten pushes down on Choke's head and hops out.
A lazy left from Torsten finds it's target.
Torsten misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Choke.
Choke shoots in and drives through. Torsten sprawls well.
Torsten misses with a telegraphed body shot

and Choke counters with a nice double leg into side control. Torsten won't be happy with that.

Torsten explodes and escapes back to his feet! Nice escape there!
This has been an exciting period of action!

Choke gets a takedown into half guard.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.

Choke seems to be looking for submissions.

Choke is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Torsten has managed to free his arm - good work.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Choke looks to land a strike but Torsten avoids it nicely and regains full guard.
Choke has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Choke trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
Torsten manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Choke manages to get himself to full guard.

Torsten not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.

Choke has his foot on Torsten's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Torsten works his way back into a safe position though.

Choke tries to strike from the bottom but it doesn't land.

Well, if Torsten is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.

Choke wants to get back to full guard.
Choke manages to get to full guard.

Choke working for a triangle but Torsten defends it easily.
Torsten wants to control from the top but Choke keeps moving.

Choke has his foot on Torsten's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Torsten works his way back into a safe position though.
Torsten controls from within his opponent's guard.
Choke is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.


Choke is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Torsten is just riding it out for now. Choke eventually gives up the hold.

The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Choke is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Torsten has managed to free his arm - good work.
Torsten controlling the position well.
Torsten is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Torsten regains full guard. Nicely done.
Choke is looking to work some ground and pound but Torsten has wrist control.
Choke preventing the sweep.
Torsten can't keep his opponent in guard - Choke advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.

Choke trying to mount his opponent but Torsten defends it.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Torsten avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Choke.
Torsten tries to get to full guard but Choke has control of the leg.

Choke is working for a submission of some sort.
Torsten gets back to full guard.
Torsten lands a beautiful sweep and he's now moved into his opponent's guard.

Torsten controlling from the top position.
Torsten trying to stand up but can't free himself from Choke's guard.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Baldur Torsten will probably get the nod.
Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin!

Choke misses with a takedown attempt - Torsten sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
Choke ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face.
Choke half commits to a counter takedown before pushing away, out of range.
Torsten throws a body shot but no joy.
Choke looks to have improved his striking defense since last time we saw him fight.
Choke shoots for a takedown but Torsten saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
Torsten misses with a looping left.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Choke is pinned up against the cage taking some big shots here. The referee is looking closely deciding whether he should stop the fight.

It looks like David Choke has been cut.
Both fighters are looking to counter, which isn't making for the most exciting fight in the world.
Torsten misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Choke.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Choke shoots in for a takedown but Torsten shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for David Choke. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Choke fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Choke closes the distance and takes a jab right on the nose as he does so.
Choke will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
Torsten has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Torsten connects with a good right hand that stumbles Choke. Choke circles away out of range and recomposes himself.
Torsten sizes up Choke with a pawing jab and scores with a straight right down the middle.

Choke misses with a takedown
and Torsten counters with a stiff right hand.

Torsten feints and then winds up with a huge right hand that connects perfectly and sends Choke sprawling to the canvas! Choke rolls over backwards and springs off the cage and manages to regain his footing - how acrobatic! Oh, he's still wobbly - can Torsten finish him?!

Choke is rocked!
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Choke shoots in but doesn't get the takedown
and Torsten counters with a shot to the ribs. That looked like it hurt.
Torsten throws a hard body shot but it just misses.

Choke on the wrong end of a vicious looking body shot.
The fighters circling - Torsten throws out the jab but it was never going to land.
Choke half commits to a counter takedown before pushing away, out of range.
Torsten displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Choke.
Choke fails with a takedown attempt.
Torsten throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.

Torsten throws a lazy right hand but Choke sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily.
Choke changes levels looking for a counter takedown but doesn't commit.
Torsten tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Choke was well out of range. Poor timing from Torsten.
Choke appears to be looking for a counter takedown.
A slow jab from Torsten misses its intended target.
Choke is trying to close the distance and clinch up, after that failed offence from Torsten.
Torsten misses with a wild body shot.
Choke avoids a low kick by using good footwork.
Torsten misses with an uppercut.
Choke seemed to be looking to counter by closing the distance.
Choke takes a shot right to the bread basket.
Torsten punishes Choke's body with a nice straight punch.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Baldur Torsten showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The cut man is working on David Choke's cut.
That's time! Back to the action!

Choke fails with a takedown attempt.
Torsten looks like he wants to counter punch here.
Torsten fakes a jab and then connects with a hook.
Choke ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face.

Torsten cracks a nice hook into Choke's ribs.

Choke takes a jab right on the kisser.

Torsten sends Choke crashing to the mat with a devastating uppercut! Torsten is motioning to the referee to let Choke up. He wants to try and finish this one on the feet!
Oh Choke is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!
Torsten fakes the body blow, causing Choke to drop his hands! Left hook to the temple! Choke goes stiff, and falls face first into the mat. Goodnight!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:23 of round 3, we have a winner by way of KO (Punch). Baldur Torsten!
Baldur Torsten is the new light heavyweight champion!
An out of breath Baldur Torsten thanked his loyal fans in his post fight interview, giving them credit for his success over the course of his career.
