PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Jos Alves (ranked 4579 p4p, 24758 weight class) and Tapad Amiga (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Jos Alves!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 10 - 1, fighting out of Las Vegas, Tapad Amiga!
The judges for this bout are Luis Engracia, Emerson Jorge and Edson Gomes.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Alves throws a hook but Amiga blocks it.
Amiga is clearly looking to counter with head kicks.

Amiga changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Alves looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
Amiga remains in side control and seems content to stay there. It's a versatile position from which he can work both strikes and submissions, whilst maintaining that control, so maybe he'll sit here for a while.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Amiga is working Alves over with some ground and pound from side control.
Alves is positioning himself to get back to half guard.
Alves wants to control but Amiga postures up.
Alves trying to remain calm as Amiga controls from the top position.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Alves cracks Amiga with a right hand to the side of the head.
Alves throws the left hand but Amiga avoids the punch easily.
Alves throws a hook to the side of Amiga's head but Amiga sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.
Alves throws an ugly left hook that misses
and Amiga counters with a body kick that stops Alves in his tracks momentarily.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Alves throws a shot from downtown. Amiga moves away and avoids it.
Alves looks to clinch

and Amiga decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Alves's guard.
Alves is looking to stand back up but Amiga counters by passing into half guard. Oops... bit sloppy there by Alves.

Amiga slows the pace down in half guard.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Let's hope that Amiga has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.
Alves wants to improve his position but Amiga is controlling well.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Alves trying to hold on to Amiga's head to control him but Amiga postures up.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Tapad Amiga dominated that round.
That's time! Alves's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.

Alves throws a lazy uppercut

and Amiga counters with a single leg into guard. Alves didn't expect that.
Amiga sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Alves's guard.
The referee calls for the fighters to work.
Amiga's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.
We're seeing a lot of stalling here from Amiga.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Amiga is continuing to stall.

Yet more stalling tactics from Amiga.
We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.
More stalling from Amiga.
Alves wants to get back to his feet.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up.
Jos Alves seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
A big right from Alves misses.
Amiga counters with a body kick.
Alves throws out a loose jab but Amiga uses good head movement to avoid it.
Amiga uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Alves.
Amiga thinks about the counter body kick.
Alves scores with the left hand. Amiga knows he should have avoided that one.
Amiga has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Amiga ducks under a wild hook from Alves.
Amiga thinks about the counter body kick.
Alves fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Amiga flicks out a counter leg kick but Alves steps away.
The fighters circling - Alves throws out the jab but it was never going to land.

Amiga shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Amiga showed some decent athleticism there.

Alves trying to get back to full guard but Amiga takes advantage of the position and moves to full mount!

Alves is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Amiga tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.
Alves is working to get back to half guard.
Amiga takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.

And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Tapad Amiga showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. This is the final round!


Amiga feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
Amiga slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.

Amiga lands a nice shot whilst sitting in his opponent's guard.
Amiga is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Amiga slips a jab and a cross from Alves.
Amiga counters with a body kick.

Amiga dives in and scores a takedown into Alves's guard.
Alves wants to get back to his feet but he's too absorbed in his own little project and Amiga manages to pass to side control.
Jos Alves has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

Well, if Amiga is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.
Alves wants to stand back up but Amiga manages to pass into side control.
The referee asks Amiga politely if he wouldn't mind getting on with it and actually doing something. Amiga prefers to stall for the moment though.

Amiga cracks Alves with an elbow. That is naaassty.
Amiga just content to control the position.
Alves struggling a bit here.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Alves seems a little lost for a moment, as Amiga dominates the positioning.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

The adventures of Amiga the control monster continue. Boring.
Tapad Amiga is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.

Tapad Amiga comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I've got Amiga winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
